“The comment came back, how
ever, that the administration ex
pects its employes' and students
to comply with the requirements of
the Board and the president with
out exceptions in principle or fact.
“I was then told that they had
other matters to attend to and
I was told to go.
“Reporters were waiting on the
outside. They were probably dis
appointed that I did not stop and
visit with them a while.
“But a class of 40 or more stu
dents was waiting for me, and I
hurried back to my classroom. At
any rate more than likely I would
not have said anything differently
to them from that which I said to

“My statement to this student
reporter was that the appearance
before the Board was not unpleas
ant, and I could not see from any
thing that they did and said on
that occasion that they intended
to dismiss me. I felt that this was
a preliminary hearing, which it
might well have been, and that
they would look more deeply into
the subject when they had more
time.
“At about 9 o’clock that night
I was called on the phone by one
of the Dallas News reporters. He
informed me that I had been dis
missed from my position and
wanted to know what I had to
say. I told him that I doubted
the accuracy of his information.
He, thereupon, read me the ac
tion of the Board.
“I then called Dean Bolton and
Dean Brooks to see what they knew
