er item these professors are noted
foy. Quirzes should be designed
to bring out what the student has
learned. They should not be a
guessing game or a matching of
wits between student and profes
sor. A Quiz of this type covering
the material that the pupil should
learn Spd should know can deafly
indicate the level 'of his knowledge,
it .will be fair and just at the
me tiipe. I might add that the
portant subject matter in any
ok is never found in the fine
print at the bottom of the page.
Why should these mCn with an
tiquated ideas,' antagonistic at
titudes, and prejudiced minds be
retained at this college which is
supposed (?) to rank among the
best in the ftation? I have taken
three Course>i$jUnder student jin-
structors sine* I started back to
school last rail, and each of these
men taught hj$ respective subject
much better than could some men
I know with, the title of professor.
II know this is trqe because two
lof the courses were opes that I felt
I needed to take over again. They
jwyre courses that I took in 1942
phder men who were classified as
professors. No, I did not fail these
courses. I hsijd just forgotten the
subject matter.
The fact remains that I would
puch rather enrdll in a course un-
jler some student, instructors 1
know than under some professors
I know, assistant, associate or
otherwise. The student instructor
Understands tljie problems confront
ing his pupilsl because he is going
through the same ordeal. He is
fair, eoopferafive, yiand thorough^
and will gq to any lengths to help
his students Team the material.
} Don’t Interpret this to mean that
the above type of teacher is ‘easy’.
The ‘easy* professors are not usu
ally the goodj ones. No one Can
jeam without work and thorugh,
put one can work and think with
enjoyment and interest, while one

;IES TO VISIT THEIR

Now I am not advocating stu
dent teachers in this institution. I
gm just using these examples to
Show how a teacher can be human
gnd gain the respect of his stu-
ents through fair play and corn-
ion decency. It seems to me that
f a man is smart- enough to be a
rofessov, he jshould be intelligent
npiigh to know whether his Stu-:
'ents like him or not, hnd if they
re Interested in his lectures.
Perhaps some nqw blood on the
acuity staff is inj order for this
ichool, Any i racer knows that
!‘in-breeding” will ruin the quality
nd breed of his livestock in a very
hort, time. Could this hold true
or graduate students turned pro-
essors at A & M. ? I wonder if
rofessors from Eastern and Mid-,
estern schools might not be in-
uced to teach he^e if only some
ffort were expended to secur;
heni.
In my opinion, the only way to
$lleViate this tug-of-war is through
mutual understanding. If we knew
the difficulties Confronting. the
feachers, Upd they! knew the hard
ships under yvhich we labor, then
Sach side c<Jui<l make allowances
Snd adjustments\hhd reach a mid
dle ground where both skies would
profit. This could be accomplished
through social gatherings, infor-
tnal discussiolns between the teach
ers gnd their pupilk, and public'in-
iervieWs of various} professors and
students. Perhaps The Battalion
could publish such; discussions u'qd
