scale military policy.
Regarding freshman details, and
use of the board, Col. Meloy stated
it was not up to him to decide
about such matters, but that inter
pretation of the Basic Policy pro
visions is the President’s and the
Board of Directors concern.
Meet Gilchrist
Col. Meloy arranged for a meet
ing of the committee with Presi
dent Gilchrist at 4:30 Wednesday
afternoon. At 5:30, the President
arrived from Houston, and sum
moned the committee to his office,
where upon the grievances of the
seniors were presented.
Waving aside all minor techni
calities, President Gilchrist stated
that he was completely behind the
Basic Policy, and anticipated no
change in it.
He stated that any violations of
the Basic Policy would continue
to be prosecuted.
He recommended, however, that
if the students want the interpre
tation of the Basic Policy changed,

they might appear before the
Board of Directors at their next
meeting February 28.
The request that Lt. Col. Bennie
Zinn, assistant to the commandant,
be removed was refused.
Statements of the committee af
terward indicated that they were
dissatisfied with their reception.
Class Meets Again
The seniors met again Wednes
day night in the Assembly Hall to
hear the report of the all-day ef
forts of the committee, and though
tempers had calmed somewhat,
there was still little conciliatory
sentiment.
The class agreed not to resume
their responsibilities as cadet of
ficers unless commissions were
restored to everyone without dis
crimination. They would resume
military formations for the sake of
order, they agreed.
Charles Burton, correspondent
for the Dallas News, and Byron
Winstead, college publicity direc
tor, were invited into the meeting,
and were read a lengthy statement
embodying the class’s objectives,
and the results of the senior com
mittee’s efforts so far.
Included in this statement was a
recommendation for the ouster of
President Gilchrist, as well as Lt.
Col. Bennie Zinn.
The senior committee was com
missioned to revise the Articles of
the Cadet Corps, striking objec
tionable provisions and inserting
necessary ones, and to submit the
new version at the next meeting.
