A Infantry Repeats As Intramural Winner
Final Volleyball Game With C Battery
Decides Possession of Athletic Flag
Infantry Take Last
Match 15-12, 12-15, 15-8
A Company Infantry, showing
all the skill, coordination, and spir
it that goes to make up an Intra
mural championship team, came
through with a win in the volley
ball finals Tuesday evening to
cinch the Intramural Flag for the
second straight semester.
The winning company, command
ed by Cadet Captain Orville Ba
ker, was led by Clifford Mast,
athletic officer.
This game was particularly im
portant because had their oppo
nents, C Field Artillery, won, they
would have won the flag instead of
A Company. A Company took the
first game by a close score of
15-12, but C Battery came back
strong in the second one to win
15-12. With the whole Intramural
championship resting on the third
game, A Company really put the
pressure on, winning it 15-8.
Little Ray Golden and Stan Wy-
ble did a good job at setting up the
ball for A Company’s ace spik-
ers, Fergus and Presnal. Loffer
and Kellar also played good ball
for the winners.
C Battery’s team, composed of
Horner, Leberman, Schmidt, Davis,
Tittle and Hughes, all deserve cre
dit for playing a swell game, with
Schmidt an d Davis being the stand
outs.

Close Season
With Barbecue
My way of thanking the men who
made the intramural athletic pro
gram such a success this past year,
a barbecue supper was given Mon
day night at Cashion Cabin by the
Physical Education department.
Barbecue, potato salad, onions,
beans, coffee, and tea were expe
dited by Spike White and served to
the gathering.
Voicing words of appreciation
were W. L. Penberthy, Spike
White, President Gilchrist, Dean
Barlow, Dean T. D. Brooks, Joe
Skiles, Roy Bucek, Breezy Brea-
zeale and Jo-Jo White, graduating
intramural managers, Fritz Hensel,
Sam Label and Wally Beck ex
pressed their thanks to all who
were connected with the intramur
al program.
Organization intramural athle
tic officers were also present.
Kyle Field
By U. V. Johnston
The All-Conference team picked
by Coach Lil Dimmitt would be a
very powerful one but I can not
agree with him whole-heartedly on
some of his choices. His men are
undoubtedly good but I think he
overlooked some excellent men
when he made his choices.
For catcher I would pick Tom
Chandler of Baylor on the basis
of his hitting and fielding over
O’Reagan’s. For center field Bob
Fergqson is the outstanding play
er in the Conference. He is bat-
tting .326 and his fielding is very
good. He made two errors for the
season against one for Bell, but the
margin on his batting out-weighed
Bell’s fielding margin.
For the hot corner I can not un
derstand a team that leaves the
conference’s leading hitter on the
bench. Jackson is weak on the
fielding side of the ledger, but his
.460 batting average is enough in
his favor to assure him a berth
on any All-Conference team. To
leave such a powerful hitter off a
team would be a very fatal mis
take. Jackson made the Associated
Press All Conference team last
year while playing for the Hom
ed Frogs with a batting average of
better than .350 and I think he has
earned the berth again this year
with his .460 for the Teasippers.
If Jackson makes the team again
this season he and Kelty Powell, of
Rice, will be the only two year
men for the season.
Army Pilots Offered
Chance to Fly Again
In Reserve Corps
Former army pilots who are itch
ing to fly again, as members of
the Officers Reserve Corps, are
urged to get in touch with the
Air Power Committee, Houston
Chamber of Commerce.
The army is planning to center
reserve activity for this district at
Ellington Field in Houston. If
eonugh pilots are registered from
A. & M., it may be possible to get
in flight time at Easterwood Field,
according to an army spokesman.

Three Aggies on Coach Dimmitt’s
All-SW Conference Baseball Squad
Lil Dimmitt, head baseball coach,
has announced his 1946 all-Con-
ference baseball team, picked from
the men who had dealt the Aggies
the most trouble for the season. Lil
placed three Aggies on his team.
The three Aggies were Hub
Moon, Earl Beesley, and Julian
Pressley. In addition to the three
Aggies Lil’s team is composed of
four Teasippers, two men from
Rice, and one each from TCU,
SMU, and Baylor.
Three men on this conference
team are under the surveillance of
the big league scouts. Nearly every
scout in the area has his eye on
Bishop from Rice. It is not for
his pitching, however, but for his
power with the stick.
Dimmitt’s team as follows:
Catchers
Jack O’Reagan Tu
Harry Mullins TCU
Pitchers
Bobby Layne Tu
Earl Beesley A & M
Bill Bishop Rice
lb—Kelty Powell Rice
2B—Jack Redding Baylor
3B—Julian Pressley A. & M.
SS—Chick Zomleffer Tu
LF—Hobbs Williams Tu
RF—Hub Moon A. & M.
CF—A1 Bell SMU.
