Platter Chaffer Colmbia has released a new Benny Goodman album entitled “BENNY GOODMAN’S SEXTET SERENADE” that is tops as far as sextet .albms go. Included are such favorites as “TIGER RAG”, “SHINE”, “AIN’T MISBEHAV IN’’, “HE’S FUNNY THAT WAY”, “I GOT RHYTHM”, “JUST ONE OF THOSE THINGS”, “CHINA BOY’,, and “RACHELS DREAM. Featured are Benny Goodman, Clarinet; Red Norvo, vibes; Mel Powell and Teddy Wil son, piano; Morey Feld, drums; Mike Bryan, guitar; and Slam Stewart, bass. Even though the album has just been cut, it cap tures the old sextet style of the early thirties. Capitol had a field day this month and turned out three discs that are sure to have a long pop ularity run. Ella Mae Morse and Freddy Slack have combined tal ents and turned out a boogie- vocal that should surpass “Cow- Cow Boogie”. “THE HOUSE OF BLUE LIGHTS” presents the inimitable Slack boogie and Ella Mae’s chirping is just what is needed to put the song across. “HEY MR. POSTMAN”, on the reverse, has fine, slow, blue lyrics that will surely help the gal make her comeback. “ANY PLACE I HANG MY HAT IS HOME” and “LI’L AUGIE IS A NATURAL MAN” are from the Mercer-Arlen show “St. Louis Woman”. If these songs are a representative of the music in the show, it ought to be a big hit. Paul Wes ton and ork furnish the back ground music. “EVERYONE IS SAYING HELLO AGAIN (Why Must We Say Good-bye)” and “(GET Your Kicks on) ROUTE 66” by the Nat “King” Cole trio presents the close harmony rhythm that has taken the combo right up the ladder to fame and fortune. “Route 66” takes the listener on a musical journey from Chicago to L. A., making all the important stops enroute. “Every one . . .” is a blues number with good background piano. “Rebop” has finally gotten around to the new Glenn Miller band, now under the able baton of “Tex” Beneke. The ork has recorded “HEY! BA-BA-RE-BOP” with the vocal by “Tex” himself. On the bottom is “THE WHIF- FENPOOF SONG (Bah, Bah, Bah!) The Beneke crew has also released “STRANGE LOVE” and “CYNTHIA’S IN LOVE”. To straighten out wharped records, place them between two sheets of glass and allow them to lay in the sun for about two hours. :}c :)c :jc $ ^ ^ $ * ALL BOOK BORROWERS * * All faculty members and * * students are asked to please * * return all books to the library * * which are charged on two * * weeks loan.
