Aggie Cindermen Leave for Laredo Meet
Coach Anderson Hopes for Good
Fishing Weather at Border Meet
By Marion Pugh
Battalion Sports Editor
When Col. Frank Anderson was questioned about his
Aggie track team, and about the possibilities of a few first
places at the Border Olympics being held at Laredo today
and tomorrow, he answered a little like the fisherman. “If
the water is right,” said Colonel
Andy, “the bait good, the fish hun
gry, and I’m lucky—could catch
one.”
Nevertheless, the Aggies are
moving down on the border ready
for anything. In time trials the
other day, the' thinly clads didn’t
look bad, and yet there was no
call for the fire department to sim
mer down the cinders.
Two Laredo lads showing their
wares during the trials were Bill
Swisher and Alexander Ortiez.
Swisher is a comer, according to
Coach Anderson, and is pegged for
action in the 440-yard relay and
possibly in the 100-yard dash. Or
tiez is the more durable of the
two and runs in the 440-yard dash
and also on the mile relay. Assist
ant Coach Ray Putman says that
this lad has shown wonderful im
provement and has hopes that he
will develop more this year.
Also looking good was the All-
Conference halfback last year, Bob
Goode, who blossomed out as a
broad jumper. He has been in ac
tion as a hurdler, but showed good
form in the broad jump event.
Layton Lomax showed up well
in the 880-yard run, and will be
the Cadet entry in that event.
Johnny Zeigler, former distance
champion of the conference, and
Stone Webster, cross country let-
terman, will run the mile for A.
& M.
