Aggies Lose to Baylor in
Lead Changes Seventeen Times, Score "
Is Tied Six Times in Hectic Fray
By Marion Pugh
A fighting Texas Aggie five lost a heartbreaker in an
overtime period last night to the smoothly operating Baylor
Bears of Waco. The score was 54-48.
TENNIS
All men who have had exper
ience, or would like to try out
for the tennis team, are re
quested to meet in the g’ym at
five p.m., Monday, 18 February.
Coach Manning Smith.
It was the type of game that
will throw plenty of business to
the tailor and the druggist—the
tailor will get rich repairing pants
seats frazzled by the Aggie fans’
twisting to get the “English” on
the round ball to get it through
the hoop, while the druggist prob
ably did a landslide business in
the nerve medicine department.
The score in this hectic melee was
tied six times, and the lead changed
hands seventeen times.
The first half was outstanding
on account of the many shots miss
ed. The Aggies were passing the
ball like the man in “The Lost
Weekend”, but stayed in the bqjl
game through superior hustle and
Jamie Dawson’s ability to cash in
on free shots. Little Jackie Robin
son put the Bears ahead at the
half-time period with a two-pointer
which gave the Bruins an 18-16
lead.

the go whistle for the second half,
Homer Adams, who played an out
standing game all the way, tied up
the score on a long shot, and from
there on it looked as if the Aggies
might upset the dope bucket. With
13 minutes to go, Bill Yeoman rang
the bell for two and the Aggies
went out in front 32-31. The lead
jumped from the Aggies to the
Bears to a tie, until with l 1 /-- min
utes to go the Cadets found them
selves in front 46-42. At this time
Bill Yeoman, who had played his
usual hustling game, fouled out.
With one minute to play, Dawson
was fouled, and the Aggies chose
to take the free throw instead of
taking the ball out of bounds. The
second guessers were having a
field day on this point this morn
ing, but it is very doubtful if the
Aggie cagers could have held the
ball for that entire minute. As it
was, some ten or eleven shots were
made at the baskets during the
closing seconds.
Anyhow, the Baylor boys got
hot and tied up the count with a
field goal and a penalty toss in the
last 25 seconds. Hailey, Shearin,
and Robinson sacked up the con
test in the overtime period with
two points each.
For Baylor, little Jackie Robin
son was outstanding, leading the
scoring with 22 points and looking
smooth as silk on the floor. Ed
wards, who did a good job of stay
ing on Dawson’s back, and Belew
each garnered 8 for the Bruins,
while Hailey also played a good
game for the Bears.
Jamie Dawson led the Aggies
with 16 points, and Bill Yeoman
was good for 11. Homer Adams
played a nice, steady game all
the way and was good for 10
points.
