Jefferson An increasingly popular place on the A. & M. campus is the Li brary’s Music Room. It makes the Library’s collection of over one thousand classical records available to all the Aggies and servicemen here. A new shipment of records for new additions and replacements will arrive soon, bringing the total of the collection up to nearly twelve hundred records. During the last year, from Aug ust, 1943, to July, 1944 totaling nearly twenty-four thousand rec ords were played. Many of the men who played these records ex pressed appreciation of the facil ities offered by the Music Room. The most popular pieces were written by Beethoven and Tschai- kovsky. Sometimes as many as one- hundred forty different composers were heard in one month. The dif ference in campus personnel caus ed by the changing of servicemen has caused a difference in the tastes shown over a period. How ever, these have been the most popular composers all along. A number of other composers whose works were played often are Brahms, Bach, Gershwin, Mozart, and Herbert. All men stationed on the campus are invited by the Library to come often to the Music Room. In pre-rationing days, the ave rage American ate 130 pounds of meat a year. Now he eats an average of from 145 to 150 pounds a year.
