The Lowdown On
Campus ‘Distractions
by Robert S. Gold
At Guion Wednesday and Thurs
day—“She Knew All the Answers”
with Joan Bennett and Franchot
Tone. The plot is a familiar type,
the girl in the story trying to win
the boy. Eventually she comes out
victorious.
The Lowdown: The picture is
old, but the story is not too trite
to offer some interest. Joan Ben
nett is always attractive.
The double feature at Guion
Hall on Friday and Saturday are
old pictures. “You Can’t Escape
Forever,” with George Brant and
Brenda Marshall, in a romantic
feature that has some good acting,
but unfortunately a weak plot. The
other feature is “Gildersleeve on
Broadway,” with Harold Peary
and Billie Burke, a comedy with
some good laughs, but very little
plot. The best thing about the
story is that Billie Burke does
some excellent acting.
The Lowdown: There are better
shows, and worse ones, too.
Also at Guion Hall on the Satur
day night and Sunday bill is “Once
Upon a Honeymoon,” with Ginger
Rogers and Cary Grant. Ginger is
a girl from Brooklyn who marries
a German diplomat, and who gets
entangled during her honeymoon
trip in a lot of political uprisings.
When she finds out what the Ger
man husband really is, she leaves
him and marries Cary Grant, an
American news reporter.
The Lowdown: Good plot—time
ly picture—pleasing acting.
At the Campus today and Wed
nesday is “The Navy Way,” with
Robert Lowery and Jean Parker.
Like many current pictures, this
is another reflection of war activ
ity, but this time with no actual
battle scenes. It presents a group
of “Boots,” who are supposed to
be typical. Many of the scenes
are of the Great Lakes Naval
Training Station.
The Lowdown: Not bad. Many
good scenes. Fairly good story.
No real excitement, but pleasant
to follow through.
Thursday and Friday it’s “Buf
falo Bill,” with Joel McCrea and
Maureen O’Hara. Good acting, built
around a fine story of early Amer
ican life in certain parts of the
country. It contains numerous In
dian scenes, colorful views, and a
fine supporting cast.
The Lowdown: We haven’t had
a better entertainment in store in
a long time. The film is done in
technicolor, has a fast-moving
plot, and holds interest to the last.

nesday through Saturday, we have
“Pin Up Girl,” with Betty Grable,
John Harvey, Martha Raye, and
Joe E. Brown. There are eight
pleasing songs in the technicolor
extravaganza. Joe E. Brown plays
the part of a night club owner,
and Eugene Pallette is pleasingly
comical in an army uniform. In
the end, Betty, as a top sergeant,
does some marching routines that
are as well executed as seem pos
sible.
The Lowdown: Good entertain
ment for any age.
Also at the Palace, beginning
Sunday is that much-talked-about
picture, “Tender Comrades,” star
ring Ginger Rogers and with a new
leading man, Robert Ryan, playing
opposite her. It is a story of the
girl “next door” and the boy she
marries, and of what happens when
he goes off to war. It is a simple
but powerful theme, for it strikes
a timely note. It is the story that
has been relived in all parts of
America since the entrance of our
country in the war.
The Lowdown: A natural story
that presents facts comparable to
many you already know about.
Don’t fail to see this one.
