TUESDAY AFTERNOON, AUGUST 15, 1944 THE BATTALION PAGE 5 The Lowdown On Campus Distractions By Alfred Jefferson G’uion's Wednesday and Thurs day feature is to be “Girls On Pro bation,” featuring Ronald Reagan. This is old as they come, and it’s Hot up to par. More of the old stuff about girls who commit pet ty crimes and are not jailed, but put on probation. The story of their troubles is told with plenty of tears and screams. Don’t judge this by Reagan’s presence, because it was released before he got on the star parade. The Lowdown: Below average, and the average is pretty low. Friday and Saturday’s double bill is made up of “Aerial Gunner,” with Chester Morris and Richard Arlen, and “Margin for Error,” starring Joan Bennett and Milton Berle. “Aerial Gunner” is filled with excitement and tells a fairly interesting story about a young man who is trained in the AEF as a gunner. His experiences are worth seeing to those of us who plan to join the Air Force some time soon, because the chances seem to favor new cadets becom ing gunners. The other feature, “Margin for Error,” which is based on a play by Claire Booth Luce, is a fast- moving mystery concerning the German consulate in New York. Milton Berle, here a Jewish police man, is one of a number of men ordered to guard the German Em bassy just before we entered the war. When he and a German maid fall in love, and the Consul’s sec retary joins the American army, the Consul goes a little off the beam and tries to murder his sec retary. There are some tense mo ments, and the story ends with an interesting twist. The Lowdown: A combination of two good shows. Though there have been some uncomplimentary things said about “Margin for Error,” most of you will like it. It was a smash hit on Broadway, and a good play usually makes a good movie. All you bobby-sox boys will just have to go to the Campus today or tomorrow to see Frankie the Voice Phone 4-1HMS S,r N 9C & 20c Tax Included Box Office Opens at 1:0# P. M. Michele Mor gan is the leading lady, and Jack Haley furnishes the corn. The Lowdown: It’s good if you like Sinatra, but there’s not too much there if you don’t. Thursday and Friday’s show will be “Hey, Rookie,” with Ann Miller, Hal McIntyre and his band, and a number of other musical entertain ers. This is just a series of spe cialties with a few spots of rookie humor thrown in. The Lowdown: This is not only a “B” picture; it is a very “B” pic ture. In other words, go get your English for once. Scientists predict that the new synthetic rubber tires will last for 10,000 miles. —BACKWASH— (Continued from Page 2) to wear uniforms they should wear them right. Juniors and sophomores seem to be the worst offenders. Seniors seem to be doing less than they could to keep the juniors and sophomores in uni form. Heck, it used to be a senior privilege to go non-reg. From Tessie-land Letters rfom the Tessies have lately been signed, “We love boots and we love you when you wear boots.” Now what do the gals real ly love? A Tessy once said: “If you kiss me, I will push your teeth in.” “Go on, beautiful, you don’t kiss that hard.” Tessie (at dance): Wait right here for me, Bill, while I go pow der my nose. Tessie (three dances later):: Been waiting long? Aggie: No, I’ve been looking all over for you to give you your compact. This little story just illustrates the point in question. Some girls come to A. & M. for a weekend of dates and others come to A. & M. for a weekend date. What kind do the Aggies like ? Hmm. All depends upon the viewpoint. If an Aggie invites the girl down he would rather it was the latter but if he doesn’t have a girl down he would rather it would be the former. He would rather have the farmer’s daughter.
