PAGE 4 The battalion TUESDAY AFTERNOON, JULY 11, 1944 Strike one . . . Scratch one. - STRICKHAUSEN - (Continued from page 1) letics. A member of the Aggie of this year, Strickhausen was playing first base for the Aggies in a game with a Brooks Field nine in San Antonio when a mis- map occurred which nearly ended his life. Midway in the sixth in ning of this game, an enemy bats man knocked a grounder to the third baseman who, in making the throw to first base, threw the ball high over Strick’s head. As Strick hausen leaped into the air to catch the ball, the batter, racing for first, caught him in the kidney with his shoulder, a terrific shoulder block. Although shaken up quite a bit r Strickhausen stayed in the game but later on when he was taken to the Post hospital for ex amination, it was discovered almost too late that he had a ruptured kidney. After the operation, he was in the hospital for two weeks, los ing twenty-one pounds. Incidental ly, Strickhausen won his letter in baseball and was elected team cap tain. Today, he still remembers and is very grateful to Coach Nor ton and the members of the base ball team who stuck with him and sent him flowers during his time in the hospital. As all people do, he has a favor ite food, shrimp and steak, but he adds there is very little he likes better than a piece of raw meat. As to his hobby, he has collected over forty guns of varying speci mens and he would rather fish and hunt than do almost anything else in utilizing his spare time. He is also a great football and baseball enthusiast. His greatest thrill while at A. & M. thus far was at the final re view ending his fish year when the Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors came around to the freshmen, shak ing their hands and calling them by their first names. He says he still remembers clearly everyone sobbing and wishing that the sen iors didn’t have to leave. Incidentally, he looks back on his fish year as his happiest days spent at Aggieland thus far. As to his plans for the future, Corps Commander Strickhausen intends to practice Veterinary Medicine upon his graduation from A. & M. NOTICE TO TAXPAYERS OF A. & M.
