Meeting In Ohio
H. W. Barlow, Dean of the
School of Engineering, has return
ed from a thirteen-day trip to the
northern section of the country.
The trip was mainly for the pur
pose of attending a meeting of the
Society for Promotion of Engineer
ing Education.
The meeting of the Society was
held for the purpose of discussing
methods by which relations can be
improved between the colleges of
the country and the industries. It
was decided that this could be done
by interchanging members of the
various staffs in connection with
the research departments. Barlow
was chairman of the Aeronautics
Committee that convened at the
meetings, and ways to improve the
aeronautical engineering courses in
the colleges was the chief topic
discussed. The meeting was held
in Cincinnati, Ohio.
From there Barlow went to Pitts
burgh, Pa., to attend a meeting
with the Westinghouse Corpora
tion, to discuss cooperative re
search projects. The conference
was arranged through M. W.
Smith, class of ’15, who is a mem
ber of the staff of the Westing-
house Corporation.
Then Barlow went to Dayton,
Ohio, to the Army Air Service
Command to obtain air force equip
ment for the college. While there
he was received by Lieut. Col. T.
H. Baker, class of ’23.
After finishing his business there
Mr. Barlow proceeded to Purdue
University at West Lafayette, Ind.,
to inspect their air port and avia
tion training program, and to dis
cuss mutual interests in aviation
training.
He returned to the college the
night of the second, after “an in
structive and interesting trip.”
