The film stars Gene Tierney, Bruce Cabot, and George Sanders. It is the Hollywood version of Barre Lyndon’s African adventures and emphasis the action and atmos phere. There is an element of timeliness inasmuch as the plot concerns the German-inspired up risings on the Dark Continent. Specifically the story tells of the valinet efforts and ultimate suc cess of a handful of brave British ers in quelling one revolt in a re mote outpost and the assistance given them by a loyal English girl posing as a half-caste native. Gene Tierney, more ravishing than ever as the alleged half- caste, both heads and dominates the cast, all members of which may be credited with sincere per formances. The Lowdown: Tierney is terri fic! “Tennessee Johnson” is the Tuesday and Wednesday billing at Guion Hall. Starred in the pic ture are Ruth Hussy and Van Heflin. This film is based on the historical events surrounding the life of Andrew Johnson. It fol lows his career up to and includ ing his position of the seventeenth president of the United States. I must confess that I can’t find any dope on the picture and not hav ing seen it cannot make any pre diction. Since its popularity is not very widespread I assume that it is only a fair production.
