screen in the title role of “KATH
LEEN,” playing at Guion Hall to
day only. In the supporting cast
are Herbert Marshall, Laraine
Day, Gail Patrick and Felix Bres-
sart.
In “Kathleen,” Shirley appears
in her first grown-up role as the
daughter of a widowed and weal
thy gentleman, Herbert Marshall.
She is domineered by a nurse in a
large and lonely house until her
father and his fiancee, Gail Pat
rick, engage a child psychologist to
take care of her.
Shirley sees through the thin
surface of the beauty of her fath
er’s fiancee and dislikes her im
mediately. She decides that she
wants her father to marry her
new companion, the psychologist
(Laraine Day). In the end she con
nives to show Miss Patrick in her
true light and to bring her father
and her companion together. Felix
Bressart, as the owner of a small
“swap shop,” is Shirley’s main
confidant and confederate.
The Lowdown: — Shirley’s a
baby no longer—her portrayal of
a grown-up is excellent.

acy. A very close race is expected
as the teams are full of stars pick
ed from the softball players on
the campus. The league is expect
ed to be the fastest in the history
of campus softball. The teams
have been practicing for a week
now and managers report all play
ers in good shape and raring to go.
As reported in the last issue of
The Battalion all sophomores and
freshmen will be ineligible to par
ticipate. This rule, however did
not affect the rosters of the teams
as most of the players which had
been signed were juniors and sen
iors. Any equipment which the
teams need can be obtained at the
Intramural Department (bats and
balls at $1.00 apiece). A big crowd
is expected Monday night to watch
the four opening games of the
season.
Later in the season, according
to present plans, an All Star
Game will be staged. Further in
formation on this will appear in
later issues.
