Aggies Should Go on Another Scoring Spree In New York; Strength of Ags Still Unknown New York and Yankee Stadium will be the next stop of the high est scoring team in the nation—. the Texas Aggies. They have compiled a total of 95 points in two games, and should have an other scoring session against N. Y. U. Marty Karow scouted the Violets in their game with Lafay ette last week, and from Marty’s reports, the Aggies should have lit tle trouble with the New Yorkers. The climate and the atmosphere and all such bunk may be differ ent up in the “Big City” but that’s what the experts said about Texas and Colorado, and the Longhorns scored as much as they wished. It is still too early to tell any thing about the team. True, no body expected the Aggies to run up such high scores, especially against A. & I., but, then, the competition the Ags have been getting is nothing to brag about. In their two games, the cadets have indicated that they have some of the flashiest backs in the con ference. They have also just about solved their problem for a passer in Derace Moser, Lee Daniels and Tom Pickett. But the thing that worried the coaches at hhe start of the season is still very much in evidence. That is the middle of the cadet line—it’s still obviously the weak link of the team, and unless it is patched up in a hurry, we’re going to hear more than a tuneful of taps. The centers have improved, yes, but not enough to assure the coaches confidence in that respect. As for the guards, Homer Norton still has trouble in finding the right combination. The first week he used Les Rich- hardson and Ray Mulhollan, and the next he started Roy Bucek and Weldon Maples. Bucek play ed for above par against A. & I., and it is almost sure that he will start next Saturday. However, the other guard is a problem. Richard son will probably start the game unless he is still bothered with his calf injury. In that case, Maples will take his place. CLOtaiERS and BRYAN New York University Lists Nine Grid Opponents From Six States Teams From East, Big Six, Southeast and Southwest To Play The Violet Washington is Next Stop For Ags; Plan Light Drills Coach Norton and his Texas Ag gies will board the train this af ternoon from Vincennes, Indiana, for Washington, D. C., where they plan to take a couple of light work outs before heading for New York. The team arrived in Vincennes Wednesday morning and took a couple of light drills. Though they Were tired, everyone was in fine spirits, and settled down to work immediately. Passing Drills Featuring some great passing work by Derace Moser, Leo Dan iels, Tom Pickett, and Cullen Rog ers, the gridsters worked earnestly in preparation for New York Un iversity. Blocking and tacklihg were also stressed in the workout with Jake Webster, Willie Zapalac, and Roy Bucek shining in that respect. Bucek’s work has greatly improved since the start of the season ,and he should be in the starting lineup against the New Yorkers Saturday. Following their drill Wednesday the team packed up and took the train for Washington, D. C. They will arrive in New York Friday af ternoon, and plan to take at least' two more workouts before game time Saturday. N.Y.U. Ready Meanwhile reports coming from the New York camp indicate that the Violets will be more than ready for the Texans. The Gotham team didn’t do as well as was expected against Lafayette last weekend, but Coach Mai Stevens has indicat ed that the Violets will prove to be a worthy opponent for the Ag gies. Both teams are reported in the peak of condition, and an interest ing game is in prospect. A crowd of some 25,000 customers is ex pected for the fray Saturday, which will be broadcast over the Nation al Broadcasting Company at 1 o’ clock. New York University faces its most strenuous schedule in football history and Coach Mai Stevens will I rely heavily upon this quintet of Violet stars during the campaign. Jimmy Tighe, Vincent “Roxy” Finn and Joe Frank are three star running backs while Boss Cherico, stellar guard and Paul Boroff, ace end are [husky linemen with 16-cylinder speed. Varsity ‘B’ Squad Faces Freshmen In Regular Tilt Friday Everyone Invited to Attend Free Game Staged at 4 PM The varsity ‘B’ squad will meet the freshman football team in a full-time game on Kyle Field Fri day afternoon with the starting time being set at the tentative time of 4 p.m. Everyone is in vited. The ‘B’ squad will be augmented by the “Blue Boys” and the in- eligibles, some of which are flashy players. Outstanding among the ineligibles is Ed Sturchen of San Antonio. Sturchen is an outstand ing fullback, weighing 220 pounds and standing about six foot four. He is slated to be a big element in the Aggie backfield when he be comes eligible next year. The varsity men who did not make the trip to New York have been continuing practice and will take part in the game Friday. The freshman squad has been working diligently under the dir ection of Coaches DeWare and Smith, and assistants. This game Friday will give them more actual game practice which should prove to be helpful to them when they play their next regular game a- gainst the Rice Slimes before the A. & M.-Rice varsity game. This squad game will enable the corps a chance to see the varsity prospects who have been in the shadows because of ineligibility or slightly under-par playing a- bility. The ineligibles of this year will be a strong part of next year’s varsity team.
