TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 1941- THE BATTALION Page 9 Changes Occur in 1 Admihistrative Personnel Kyle Makes Goodwill Tour ToPan-AraericanCountries Colonel Ike Ashburn Leaves College For Position in Houston; Succeeded by Angell The responsibility of managing the administrative affairs of A. & M. have been intrusted to a group of executives who are fully capable in every respect. This year several changes in personnel have been made. Colonel Ike Ashburn, former executive assistant to the president, has left the college for a position in Houston. Dean E. J. Kyle has a leave of absence from the college in order to make a good-will tour of South America. E. J. Howell, registrar of the college, is also on leave from A. & M. as he is now serving with the army.4. -Short sketches about these men appear below in order that the students may become better ac quainted with them. These men welcome and encourage visits from students who would avail them selves of this opportunity for guid ance and counsel and for valuable contacts with men well known in their respective fields. DR. T. 0. WALTON President of the college since 1925, Dr. Walton came to A. & M. in 1916 as state agent with the Ex tension Service. He was director of the service in 1918, retaining that position until his selection as president of the college. Eminent in national affairs, he has held this position during the period of A. & M.’s greatest growth. Walton Hall, erected in 1931, is named in his honor. F. C. BOLTON Frank C. Bolton is vice-president and dean of the college. Original ly a professor' of physics and elec trical engineering at A. & M., he was made dean of the school of engineering in 1922. He was made dean of the college in 1932 and vice-president in 1937. Dean Bol ton has contributed 32 years of his life to A. & M. He is a graduate of Mississippi State where he was a major in the cadet corps. E. J. KYLE Dean E. J. Kyle graduated from A. & M. in 1899 and began his academic career as a professor A & M President Dr. T. 0. Walton here in 1902. He was made dean of the school of agriculture in 1911 which position he still holds today. Dean Kyle has served on the ath letic council for two decades. His name was perpetuated when Kyle Field was named for him. Out standing in the field of agriculture, Dean Kyle is now on an extended good-will tour of South America. During his absence, D. AV Wil liams, head of the animal husban dry department will serve as tem porary dean. GIBB GILCHRIST A practical engineer serves as dean of the school of engineering at A. & M. Dean Gibb Gilchrist was state highway enginer for ten years, and has been President of American Association of State Highway Officials. He served as a Captain in the Engineer Corps during the World War. He came to A. & M. in 1937 as dean of the school of engineering. He is a graduate of the Texas University in 1909. Engineering Dean Gibb Gilchrist Liberal Arts Dean T. D. Brooks Vice-president F. C. Bolton R. P. MARSTELLER Dean R. P. Marsteller came to A. & M. in 1905 after graduating from Ohio State university. He was made head of the department of veterinary medicine and sur gery in 1916. He was made dean of the school of veterinary medi cine in 1937. He is now Honorary President of State Veterinary Medi cine Association of Texas. Agriculture Dean E. J. Kyle Veterinary Dean R. P. Marsteller IKE ASHBURN Colonel Ike Ashburn, who was recently executive secretary to the president, resigned that position during the summer to become sec retary of the Harris County Asso ciation for Industrial Peace. Ash burn has served A. & M. as public ity man, secretary of the Board of Directors, Commandant, and as executive assistant to the president. T. D. BROOKS Dean T. D. Brooks has been dean of the school of arts and sciences since 1932. A graduate of Baylor university, he has received an M.A. and Ph.D., from Chicago university. Formerly he was President of Texas Society of College Teach ers of Education; Secretary of Texas State Teachers Association; President of Association of Texas Colleges. He was Mayor of Waco for two years. Student Janitors Complete Special Short Course Here A. & M. should be spick and span during this year. Student janitors for this year have just completed a summer short course which was held here from Septem ber 2 to 5. This course was similar to the course offered to the building cus todians and had the same instruct ors. It will aid the student janitors in their sanitary efforts during the year. All students who will be building custodians this year were required to take this course. Between 135 and 140 student janitors attended the course.
