“Quoth the raven, ‘Never more!’ ”-f must
and so quoth the Aggie cage team.
Monday they came through with
a win over the T. C. U. Horn-

wild hardwood game. Tuesday they
at least came through alive.
North Texas Teachers, the home
of referee Doc Hayes, and S.M.U.
have more in common than
we realize. That game goes down
in history as the roughest and the
poorest called of the ’41 season.
For the Aggies, there seemed to
be missing the team play that they
have had out before.
Saturday night they face the

Allen
Defeats
Fish 39-31
Winless Freshmen
Lose 4th Straight;
Martin Is High Man
The Allen Academy Ramblers
made it two in a row over the win
less Texas Aggie Fish in a list
less basketball game played yes
terday afternoon at the DeWare
Field House.
The score was 39 to 31.
Sherrill Martin again proved a
poison to the Fish as he accounted
for 18 points, exactly half of his
team’s total. Sherrill broke loose
time and again and all his team
mates had to do was feed the
ball to him as he seldom missed the
hoop.
Jack Robinson, with 7 points, was
high man for the Fish, while “Red”
Clifton’s aggresiveness showed up
well near the close of the game.
Allen grabbed a small lead at
the start of the game which they
never relinquished. Led by Kunge
and Martin, the Ramblers built
up a 20 to 17 lead at the half. The
second half gjained momentum,
but soon fell to a slow pace. Field
goals by Martin, Mullins, and Fur
nace brought the score to 26 to
18.
The Fish started a rally near
the close of the game to slash
the Allen lead to a mere 4 points.
Then they got too over-anxious,
and missed many of their futile
long shots or got them intercept
ed. Martin and Davis accounted
for the last two field goals to
bring the score to 39 to 31. Al
len had possession of the ball as
the game ended.

Corps Hdq. copped all their games
with B Field Artillery and E In

on top, 3 to 0.
I Infantry’s 16 to 4 scalping of

Quarterbacks
Seek Answer to
“What of Texas”
Quarterback Johnny Jones and
his College Station followers will
present pictures of the Texas Un
iversity and the Cotton Bowl games
tonight in Guion Hall, according
to “substitute” R. L. Elkins.
Game time has been set at 7:30
p.m. and proceeds from the 25
cent admission charge will go to
the Aggie T Club.
Among the questions to be ans
wered by the films will be “Just
how good is Jack Crain and how
much can he be counted on next
year to lead Texas to the top?”
An interesting sidelight comes
with the story that in Austin last
Monday afternoon Norman Spep set
the Nocana star up for a great
touchdown run. Behind perfect
blocking and alert sidestepping he
was to make the life saving run.
Crain tripped over Spec Sanders
on the one yard line and then
blamed it on his weight.
On the next shooting he earned
the six points.
In the Cotton Bowl pictures, the
tricky play of the eastern teams
as shown by the Fordham Rams
will give an early glance at the
football of tomorrow. It has been
accepted that a team without a
trick play for every yard line will
travel little distance next season.

of the local quarterbacks and the
student dormitory signal callers.

Carswell and Closs
Are Obstacles Aggies
Must Overcome to Win
Rice Institute's vaunted Owls
bound into College Station Satur
day night for a Southwest Con
ference basketball tilt with the
fast-moving Texas Aggies. Leading
them in their quest for extra hoops
will be Frank Carswell and Bill
Tom Closs, closely followed by tall
Bob Kinney.
Carswell hits a loop almost
everytime he gets close and the
Aggies will be dogging his tracks
with an idea of holding him off
the backboard. It was Carswell who
set early Conference play afire
for the Owls when he connected
for 34 points against A. & M., e-
nough to tie the opposing Aggies.
His teammates weren’t content to
let Carswell do it alone, however,
and they racked up an additional
34 markers.

Swimming Team
Meets San Antonio
“Y” There Saturday
After amassing a 41 to 34 vic
tory over the Dallas Athletic Club,
the Texas Aggie Swimming Team
will attempt to score their second
consecutive victory when they take
on the San Antonio Y. M. C. A. in
the Alamo City Saturday night,
February 22.
The Aggies will again rely main
ly on their two record-breakers,
Bob Taylor, dynamic sophomore
ace, and Harold Hensley, who
makes record-breaking his hobby.
In only the last two meets both
of them have broken the amazing
number of six pool records and
three Southwest Conference rec
ords. They were also members
of a record-breaking relay team.
Bubba Reeves should add some
points to the Aggie cause on his
fancy diving performance.
