Two coaching positions have
gone through changes that see
Manning Smith coaching the ten
nis team and Smith and Charlie
DeWare coaching the freshman
baseball nine
These coaches are making a call
for both nettera and freshmen base
ball aspirants. The tennis team has
only a short time in which to get
ready for their first match, which
is against East Texas State Teach
era College here, March 28.
The tennis team will have • nu
cleus of three lettennen on which
to build n formuiaole crew. The let
ter-men are George Mitchell, Lloyd
Walls, and Bewick Wray. Others
npected to battle for the team are
I*ohn Rahn and Walemon Price,
footb«ll players.
Last season Lil Dimmitt was in
charge of the fiah baseballers and
Dr. D. F. Week as was coach of the
netters. Dimmitt does not have the
time to put in coaching, ns he is
needed in the training room. Dr.
Weekes says that his teaching
takes up too much of his time. Both
DeWare and Smith are full-time
coaches and they will probably got
better results.
The tennis schedule this season
will include:
March 28—East Texas Teachers
•t College.
April 8—Dubuque (Iowa) U. nt
( ollfg.
April 8—Rke nt Houston.
April 14—T. C. U. at Colingo.
April 1S-S. M. U, at Collage.
, April 22—Baylor at Waco.
April 29—Texas at Colfcge.
May 12-13 Southwest Confer-
enct meet (Place unannounoed.)
Now in full swing in intrsmuralsf
here is the boxing season, with
freshmen and upperclassmen scrap
ping in their respective divisions
with enough vigor to draw pos
sibly the largest intramural crowds
of the year to the gym.
Last night saw the first bouts
in the freshman—Class B—divis
ion; Wednesday night the first
Class A bouts were stayed
According to W. L Penberthy,
intramural director, who takes
particular pride in directing intra
mural boxing, bouts will be held
tonight and every night next week
excepting Saturday and Sunday.

this time, for his star

taka part owing to a braised knee
which will keep him out of action.
Spaugh is a co-holder of the con
ference 230-yard record of 2:30.8.
He is expected, however, to be
ready for the next dual meet and

Baton Rouge, March 18.

BY JEEP <
Coach Homer Norton rung down
the curtain on the thrity-day
spring training session Wednesday
afternoon with a abort but rough
scrimmage that saw Joe Boyd
ganged by practically the entire
offensive team.
The Aggie coach is well pleased
with the showing of the griddera
during the month of hard work
that was mixed up with the round
robin series of games between the
four squads.
As was expected the teams fla
tted im the order of their num
ber, with the D or fourth team not
winning a single game.
Wednesday the boys wt
through their drills with much
vigor, as they knew it was the
last day of practice^ The guys
were all, hitting hard and it ap*
peared to come from the fact that
they thought that the grind was
over and that they wore out there
only to have a lot of fun.
It is in the spring and during
the few days before school starts
ia the fall when the grid team is
built During the Wtok between
games, the coach.â– .* work only for
the next fray. Norton and the
other coaches seem to be better
pleased with their building this
•(ring than at any other time dur-
iag recent years.
Norton does not say how he ex
pects his team to finish next fall,
tat he does say that the boys will
be in there fighting and will not
be beaten withoat the worst fight
that a team ever had.
