With the clow of the achool
yeor and the nibwqucnt comple
tion of one of the moat successful
athletic seasons at Arri*l*n<J in
recent history, adieus and fare
wells are in order to that host of
Afrie athletes who hare complet
ed their final year of athletic com
petition at A and M.
Especially should credit for the
food record that has been made
this year be fiven Charlie Cum-
minfi| Joe Merka, “Red” Aikens.
and *]Buffra'* Moon, all of whom
shouldered the ~*Mpoaaiblhy of
captaining teams recognised .as ms
sports, and did so with a most
commendable efficiency. Much of
the success of the football, basket
ball, track and baseball teams is
directly attributable to the leader
ship of these men.
Such names as Dotningue, Spen
cer, Murray, Merita, Irwin, and
Lowenstein will be long remem
bered at Aggie land They truly
deserve the niche they have won
in the Aggie Hall of Fame.
While “boquet throwing" seems
to be the order of the day, let's
give plenty of credit to Carroll
Roberts, sports editor of the Bat
talion for the year just finished,
for the many hours of work and
effort extended in behalf of ath
letics at A. and M.
Interest at this time, however,
is in the direction of next year and
speculations as to just what is in
store for the Aggies in anolher
year, rather than a review of the
Keoson that is being left behind.
True partisans of those M Fightin’
Farmers'* are already setting up
a clamour that has been made and
repeated every year since the fall
of 1927, .... "Give us another
conference football championship
It will be with the clamour ring
ing loud in their ears that Coaches
Norton and Hubbard take over the
reins of the football squad next fall
for the first time. No d.>ubt is
held as to the ability of the new
Aggie mentors; they have dealt
misery aplenty to football teams
all over the South and Southwest
for these past many years through
the medium of thow famous Nor
ton-coached Centenary Gentlemen.
When the training season opens
next fall Norton will be met by as
imposing a group of returning let-
termen, squadmen and sophomore
players to represent this school in
many moons. What they will ac
complish is yet to fee seen, but it
is no secret that the new coaches
are well pleased with the mater
ial they have to work with and
their hopes and expectations for
a highly successful season are run
ning high.
While it is too soon to offer any
predictions as to what the foot
ball outcome will be, we neverthe
less feel safe in saying that the
Aggies will be right in the thick
of the fight from the start to fin
ish. This forecast is offered with
the full realisation also, that the
Farmer gridiron schedule for next
year is the most pretentious that
has ever faced an Aggie football
club. Not only do we play all mem
bers of the conference, but games
are also to be played with Temple
University, Tulane, and Michigan
State on our eleven game sche
dule.
The prospects in basketball for
pext year are exceptionally rosy,
Coach John Reid will have his
appirijg bunch of sophomores
ck intact. A world of credit is
Coach Reid for the develop-
ifeent of his sophomore material.
With Johnnie Davis and Taylor
Wilkins to form his Attack around,
and Captain Breaxeale. Tohline,
Carmichael, Bisbey and Hutto a-
vailable, the Aggies basketeers
will present a most formidable
quintet that should deal plenty of

misery to evefyane they
next year.
The Aggie' ba«*t>«ll team that
won the Soptl(west Conference
baaefcal^ title 'this year should be
an even stronger aggregation next
year. The infield of Hutto. Voel-
kel. Couser, And Connelly, that
cliched so together all sea
son, will return intact and with a
year of valuhblc experience be
hind them. While the absence of
Ike Lowenstein in center field
will be sorely felt. Coach '‘Little
Hig” H igginfeotham will have
Cochran. Reynolds. Jones, and
Sodd back. Soitl who has been out
practically all of this season, is
without doubt the best outfielder
in the conference sad can be count-
ed on to add a world of strength
.o the batting attack.
Kd Steves, . chunky backstop
from San Antpnio, will be back to
take care of the fast ones that the
great little Jgke Mooty will toss
over. To aid ft^ooty in the box will
be Martinet And several promld-
ing hurlert from the Fish team.
The club that boats this aggrega
tion next year will be deserving of
he conference championship.
In track. Coach Anderson may
be expected to have, as usual, ano-
her of his stnong teams. Gradua
tion will take its toll from the
.rack team and it will be hard to
eplace the Cook brothers, Riy'and
Foy, “Honk’* Irwin. Tom Kenner-
y. Captain “Rod” Aikens. and oth
ers who finisl their college careers
hii year, but with such men as
Fohn Herring, ^ilbur Randow, Boh
Taylor, and others around which
to build a nucleus, the lads of the
cinder path will show plenty of
strength. l
While it is utfll a long way off,
wxt year seesrt* 'to be the year of
lesliny for Aggie athletics. There
is not a one of the major sports
in which w*e should not be major
threats to all .opponents. And so,
intil next fallj we bid you all “a
fond farewell’’.'
