Urbnnovaky Earn Mentions
In Beaux-Arta Institute Of
Design Competition.
G. W. Alexander and E. J. Ur-
banovaky, both graduate students
in architecture, entered the com
petition for Class “A” ft Project,
“An Industrial City”, as presented
by the Beaux-Arta institute oi De
sign. Alexander received the award
of mention and Urbanovsky was
awarded a half mention for his en
try.
The program contained the fol
lowing Principal Elements: L An
industrial area approximately 640
acres. U. A residential area ap
proximately 1000 acree. III. A bus
iness area providing approximately
one retail store to each loo per
sona. A wholesale area approxi
mately 16 acres and approximately
16 acres devoted to yards for
building materials, coal, etc. IV.
A civic center.
In a competition sponsored last
fall by the Illuminating Engineer
ing Society, Alexander was award
ed one of the seventeen scholar
ships offered by the Society. The
•rd had a value equal to the
registration fees for one year in
the Beaux-Arta Institute of De
sign or about fifteen dollars. By
winning this award, Alexander is
eligible to compete for the 8160
prise offered by the Society. Alex-
der is now working on the illu
mination project, “The Interior of
A Church'*, which will be doe in
New York for adjudgment on
March 18.
