This years freshmen team will put the Aggies on nn equal foot ing with other Southwestern con ference teams who have been re ceiving the cream of the material for the past few year*. One of the chief reasons for this sudden shift of .matorial is the fact that the Aggies wil meet “Pop” War ners Temple University team in Philadelphia next year. William* of the Intramural Board was the main speaker of the evening and gave a brief resume of intramural sports at A and M during the fifteen years that he has bee* connected with them. When l|r. Williams first became acquainted with intramural atlf letics, company football was the only sport that was organised and up until 1926, no great strides were taken in but very few others. When Mr. Penberthy came to A and M as director of intramural athletics in 1926, he immediately began to organise the different sports and to arott4*-interest of the students in taking part in them. Some idea of hia success can be gained by looking at the growth of partici pation during the last seven years. In 1927, the first year any accu rate records were kept, there wer- 2201 total participants and in -933- 33, there were over 4000. This was in spjjte of the fact that the en rollment of last year was the low est in several years.
