LATEST IN BANK PROTECTIVE DEVICES
It would take a very clever cracks
man to have any luck with bank’s
vaults which are protected in this
manner! The ultra-sensitive electric
protective system which photographs
show in use is the latest contribu
tion of science to the war on crime.
Bottom photograph shows a typical
central office of the electric protec

are instantly registered and guards

Top—The

picked up by the vibration detec

Oval—Even a puff of cigarette
smoke eclipses the invisible beam
protecting a safe and sets off

Contemplate School
For Firemen At A & M
A permanent training school for
Texas firemen to be conducted at A
& M is contemplated in a bill just
introduced in the State Legislature by
Senator C. S. Gainer of Bryan. The
proposed school, requested by the
State Firemen’s Association, would of
fer short course instruction in all the
phases of fire fighting every three
months under the supervision of ex
perienced chiefs and drill-masters of
Texas and other states.
A firemen’s short course conducted
at the college last spring, which was
attended by more than 200 firemen
from 79 cities in the state developed
pronounced sentiment for a regular
training school.
Professor H. R. Brayton, of the de
partment of chemistry and chemical
engineering of the college, who direct
ed the firemen’s short course last
spring, states that a training school as
proposed would make possible the de
velopment of a uniform system of
training and drill evolutions in all
cities of the state. The representative
of each local fire department in the
state who attended would be expected
to repeat in his local department the
training received at the scheool.

If They Ever Meet Artillery in War
Every year the poor “frog” comes I
in for his share of misery and woe j
Also, every year there is an unusual
instance which cannot be overlooked.
This one is on a luckless frog in the
artillery.
Just before retreat a few nights
ago a group of freshmen were in a
room in Milner hall holding a small
“bull session”. When- first call for
retreat sounded all the fish jumped
up and ran out of the room with the
frog right behind. He was immed
iately commanded to grab his hat and
beat it out to formation. But un
fortunately his hat was among the
missing. High and low he searched
but to no avail. And then he began
thinking. It paid, for the hat was
discovered under the raincoat on the
bed. At last with anxious eyes he
burst from the hall, and began a sec
ond search—this time for his battery.
But alas, it had disappeared.
After scanning military walk for I
the sight of his comrades, he was I
gruffly told to stand at attention and ^
salute upon hearing the notes of the T
bugle. A rebel in a revolutionary
army could have put up a better sal
ute than the one this frog displayed.
Realizing that he had better get in
somewhere in order to eat supper, he
fell in with the band. On entering
the mess hall he wondered at the gruff
treatment he was receiving, but sud
denly discovered'something unaccount
able—their hat cords were brown, and
his red. After a meal that was more
torment than nourishment, due to
outside interference, he returned to
Milner hall and was heard to say to an —
upperlassman: “Mister, if we ever get *-
in a fight with that bunch that lives
across the street, there sure is some
guys I’m gonna get”.
