and would take three years to build.
There is sufficient fall in the stream
between Waco and the coast to build
power plants along the river, which
would provide a very economical source
of power for the state.
Announcement was made of the an
nual banquet which will be held Fri
day night, December 12. Extensive
plans for a very interesting program
are being completed, and will include
as guest of honor, J. M. Howe, vice-
president of the national American
Society of Civil Engineers. Tickets
for the banquet cost seventy-five
cents.
Membership cards, for the coming
year have been recieved and are being
given to the members of the local
chapter.
Appoint Committee—
(Continued on page 5)
Thanksgiving Day was discussed by
the committee in an effort to deter
mine the opinion of the student body
on the matter, but no action was ta
ken.
Recommendation was made that
complete information regarding the
use of money derived from room rent,
added last year to the maintenance
fee of the college, be made through
The Battalion in an effort to correct
any misconstrued ideas which may
now exist.
Twenty-two members of the com
mittee were present at the meeting,
which was preceded by a banquet in
the banquet room of the college mess
hall.

Love Letters Of A
Sophomore
Wednesday Eve.
Listen Sweetheart,
I didn’t mean I didn’t want to put
your picture up beside one of those
other pictures ’cause the other pic
ture was so much better looking.’ I
didn’t mean that at all. I meant I
liked your picture so much I didn’t
need any other girl’s picture up there
no matter how pretty she was. I was
trying to compliment you. Honest.
You know I love you honey. I haven’t
had a date since I left home. There
isn’t a girl here that is as pretty as
you. Not one. Come on and be sweet
and don’t get mad over a little thing
like that. Tha’s a good girl. Smile for
poppa. There. That’s the way.
Say, do you remember me tellin’
you we was goin’ to get even with our
top-kick. We did it alright. We caught
four dogs runnin’ around on the cam
pus and put ’em in his room. Then
we nailed his door shut. Those dogs
howled all afternoon while he was in
a lab class and when he got back
one of the Army Captains was wait
in’ for him. Ole captain Snoop it was,
somebody doin’ something. He was
The one I told you about who is all
time snoopin’ around tryin’ to catch
waitin’ for Fred when he got back.
You know there’s a rule in the blue
book that says we can’t have dogs in
our rooms. Captain Snoop thought he
had Fred. And that’s where me and
Jake made a mistake! If we’d only
put one dog in the room maybe Cap
tain Snoop wouldn’t have believed Fred
didn’t own it, but four . . . and the
door nailed shut to boot. The Cap
tain just gave Fred a lecture and kinda
grinned and walked out. I looked at
him grin and you know, I believe he’s
a pretty good fellow after all.
Fred asked me if I put the dogs
in his room and I said no. I didn’t eith
er, ’cause Jake did it. He asked me
if Jake did it and I said no too. I
had to lie to protect a friend.
I had a quizz in History the other
day. It wasn’t a hard one but some
of the fellows were havin’ a hard
time answering the questions. You
could hear ’em whisperin’ in the back
like a hive of bees. The Proff was
grading a paper. I don’t believe in
givin’ help myself but I helped Fred
a little ’cause I wanted to get on the
good side of him. He didn’t need much
help so I didn’t do much wrong.
Me and Jake pulled a hot one last
night. There’s a kid here, a Junior
too, who is as dumb as any Freshman.
I don’t think he ever got away from
his mother’s skirts the whole time
he was in high school. He won’t use
any tooth paste that has pumice in
it, and he won’t drink out of any glass
somebody else has drunk out of be
fore he washes it. That’s the kind of
fellow he is. Well Jake and I have been
talking about a secret society when
ever he was around. Kinda careless
like you know. Finally Jake asked
him if he wanted to join. He said
something about it being against the
