There are nine dictatorships in
Europe today—Italy, Hungary, Rus
sia, Poland, Spain, Portugal, Lithua
nia, Bulgaria and Jugoslavia. Turkey,
now entirely an Asiatic nation, is al
so a dictatorship.
Tweinty-three nations have sent
representatives to Geneva for a con
ference, the purpose of which is to
seek an agreement for a tariff truce
in Europe.
The immediate aim of the confer
ence is to get the nations not to
raise present customs duties during
a stated period—two or three years
—and not to create in this period any
new duties.
All nations in the world, whether
members Of the League of Nations
or not, were invited to attend the con
ference. Every European state agreed
