Coach Reid, whose teams have
always been feared by Southwestern
conference fives, is a worthy suc
cessor to Coach “Chuck” Bassett, at
present coach of the Porkers. He
piloted a team to a T. I. A. A. cham
pionship in 1925-26, losing only 2
of 14 games. In ’26-’27 his team
won 13 and dropped two games but
were nosed out in the finals by the
West Texas Teachers. Last year his
quintet won seven and lost five. He
will be assisted by “Red” Petty, star
Aggie forward and Captain of the
Aggie five of last year.

“Warhorse” Shoemaker, captain,
again is running his steady mile
eating pace. J. B. Michael, letterman
on last year’s champion team is
running about seventh.
The other places have resulted in
a merry battle all year. So far Yale
Griffis, hard-working squadman for
the last two years has at last come
into his own and seems to be the
best bet. Smith and Hahn, fresh
man hill and dalers of last year,
will round out the required seven.
The Aggies are credited with hav
ing a fine chance to win the South
western Conference championship in
this event for the third straight
year. Texas defeated Rice, even
though Rice is reputed to have a
“headsup” team and Texas a poor
one.
Last year the Aggies wolloped
Texas 23-32 on the Steer course; won
18-45 the year before; beat them
33-43 in ’26; 26-31 in 1925; and won
25-32 in ’24. During this period the
Aggies have won three champion
ships while Texas has copped but
one.
Let’s go down to Kyle Field and
help this bunch of Aggie fighters
lick Texas. Just a little encourage
ment will help these boys put out
just a little more. It takes about
three months to prepare for only
one meet and when they get no
support at all, it is mighty discour
aging. Be at Kyle Field Friday.
Iowa is happy now since the Car
negie report gives only Illinois and
Chicago of the Big Ten clean records.
