Where “good enough” isn’t —
In making telephones as in debating, one achieve
ment serves only to stimulate the effort toward fresh
successes and to overcome new problems as they arise.
In manufacturing communication equipment at
Western Electric a wide range of problems is con
stantly being faced and conquered — in the labora
tories where small switchboard lamp manufacturing
is planned; in the punch press rooms where huge
presses pound away; in the production department
where forward planning controls the flow of work.
As the college debater applies himself to preparing
new and better arguments, so Western Electric men
unceasingly apply themselves to devising new and
better methods in the production and distribution of
the nation’s telephone equipment needs.

FOOL’S ACTIONS
The hulking brute of a man slowly
advanced toward her. His arms were
stretched out as if to crush her to
him. She was retreating in terror—
her face a mask of horror and re
pugnance. His countenance was ever
changing; pleading, smiling, glower
ing, threatening by turns, but of no
avail. If anything her loathing in
creased. She felt herself growing
faint. She was so pitifully small
compared with that unfeeling beast
advancing upon her. His gloating
face leered closer and closer. At last
he had her trapped. She was corner
ed. “Now you little brat,” he said,
“lie still and take this castor oil.”

The agent while going through his
plunder stored in our baggage room
came across a can of your tobacco, and
account of his not using a pipe he made
me a present of this tobacco.
You will note the revenue stamp
and your memo which was inclosed.
The tobacco was put up in 1910, six
teen years ago. But it was in good
shape, of remarkable flavor, and was
greatly enjoyed by me.
Thought you would be interested in
knowing how your tobacco held out in
these days of fast living.
