SADDLE AND SIRLOIN CLUB
ELECTS OFFICERS
At a meeting of the members of
the Saddle and Sirloin Club last week,
the following were elected as officers
of the club for the next school year:
Percy G. Farris of Uvalde, president;
N. E. Ryale, Jasper, vice-president;
W. J. Fields, Sonora, secretary; and
A. A. Storey, Lockhart, treasurer. Far
ris and Ryale are members of the
present junior class, Fields and Stor
ey of the present sophomore class.
For the benefit of those who are not
informed as to what this organization
is and why it originated, a brief
sketch of its history and organization
should be given. In 1919 the animal
husbandry students of this college
met, elected officers, and decided on
a name for the club. It is to the class
of 1920-21 however, that credit must
be given for establishing the first by
laws and constitution. The primary
object of the organization was to pro
vide some means by which the senior
livestock judging team could be sent
to the International Livestock Show
at Chicago and also the show at Kan
sas City, with the greater part of
their expenses paid, thus enabling the
boys who previously were lacking
somewhat in funds at the time the
trip was made to hold their places on
the team. By means of the annual
rodeo given in November, the club
meets these expenses of the team. The
basis of the organization was to pro
mote interest in the animal husbandry
work in this college, and in the ani
mal industry in the state as a whole,
and further, to create an organiza
tion through which the animal hus
bandry students and instructors may
be brought into closer relationships
both socially and educationally.
The club has long been one of the
most active student organizations on
the campus and under its newly elect
ed officers it is hoped that the pur- j-
pose for which it was organized will
be pushed forward and greater bene
fit derived from its association.
