DAIRY HUSBANDRY
STOCK JUDGING
TEAM RETURNS
Many Interesting Dairying Commu
nities Visited. Prominent Herds
Studied by Members.
The College herd has returned from
the Tri-State Fair at Amarillo where
it won practically every class that it
was eligible to enter. A total of
fourteen blue ribbons attest to the
high quality of the herd.
The Dairy Department did not take
enough cattle to fill out all the
classes, but the sixteen entered
brought back fourteen firsts, one sec
ond, and one third. The herd won five
Senior and one Junior Championship
and six or all of the Grand Champion
ships. The awards total four hun
dred and eighty dollars.
There were nine entries in Jerseys,
three in Guernseys and two in Hol-
stins. The Jerseys particularly at
tracted attention because of their ex
cellent quality, and Professor Grout
was well pleased with the showing of
the herd as a whole.
to seeing Mr. Darnell make his yearly
sacrifice in order that teh team may
receive the best of training but this
year he is working harder than ever
to overcome this obstacle and have
the serious purpose in mind of pre
paring themselves for the greatest
test of live-stock judging teams, the
International, which will be held in
Chicago on Saturday, December 24.
The college is -becoming accus
tomed to seeing Mr. Darnell make his
yearly sacrifice in order that the team
may receive the best of training but
this year he is working harder than
ever before. The Bronze Bull, has al
ready graced the rotunda of our Main
Building on two occasions, and to re j
turn it there as its final resting place
is the determination of every member
of the squad. Mr. Darnell himself
appears unusually optimistic over the
chances of success, and went so fan
as to admit that he had high hopes of
A. and M. being the winning team.
“An unusually strong squad is out,”
and it is to be hoped that the members
can get the necessary training to
bring back the Bronze Bull this year
as the permanent property of the
College.”

A. H. MEN WORKING
HARD TO MAKE TEAM
A. and M.’s candidates for the In

have been attending strenuous work
out ever since the twenty-third of
September. Every Monday and
Wednesday finds every man present at
five o’clock practicing placing and
giving reasons until dark, and on
Tuesdays, Thursdays ands Fridays
the work begins at three. On Satur
day the practice begins at one o’clock.
At present seventeen men are
working for a place on the team.
These men are D. Creveling, F. I.
Dahlberg, L. Dodson, O. H. Kimball,
C. B. Johnson, J. Graham, C. G. Mat-

Foester, V. R. Kennedy, P. Myers, H.
F. Tickle, C. A. Williams, A. A. Mc-
Kimmey, J. A. Keathley, and H. K.
Henry.
For the purpose of putting the con
testants under fire Mr. Darnell has
planned to hold a number of contests
between the men. The first of these
tests was held Saturday, Oct. 4. Four
cattle were judged and reasons were
given on each class.
The team will, be handicapped this
year in their preparatory training as
in the past it has received a very val
uable work-out with the live-stock at
the Dallas Fair, while this year the)
live-stock show has been called off.
With characteristic Aggie spirit, the
men are working harder to overcome
this obstacle and have the serious
purpose in mind of preparing them
selves for the greatest test of live

Some interesting sidelights on the
trip to Milwaukee have been disclosed
by the members of the Dairy Hus

turned last Thursday from the trip.
Among the many unusual happenings
on the trip was a bus ride across
country through Waukesha County
Wisconsin—the most famous dairying
’ection in the United States. While
in Milwaukee the team visited an old
English convict ship, launched in
1790 in India and which is the oldest
ship afloat. It is a relic of the olden
