THE BATTALION ❖ 4* ❖ SAY BO! DIDJA? Say Bo! Didja ever leave that Practice class on a balmy spring Day with the firm resolve to Stretch it out upon the bunk Until retreat time? And in happy Anticipation, didja whistle drowsily, That latest song hit, “So I took The 50,000—O.D.’s and stopped The straggling to the M,H.? And as you neared the place of Your abode, did a wierd and Penetrating odor force itself Upon your kind attention? And Thinking that perhaps the water Main was leaking, didja climb Up to the room to catch those Forty winkfe, conditions to the Contrary not withstanding? And when You opened the door, didja Discover that it wasn’t the Water after all, but that the Dept, of Chemical Warfare had Made their rounds again, and That all the rooms were standing Almost knee deep in cow dip? SAY BO! DIDJA? ‘LILIES” IS A TRUE PICTURE OF LIFE A bright shaft of silver sunlight streams through the open French windows of the modiste shop and finds its shining way to the golden brown curls of a model, attired in a gor geous creation of silver and black. The model moves slowly toward a stalwart youth who stands with out stretched arms waiting for his love. They meet, and the curve of their blended bodies stands out from the picturesque background like an old portrait. This is not the opening paragraph of a novelette. It is of one of the scenes in First National’s sensational pic- turization of “Lilies of the Field,” playing at the Queen Theatre Friday and Saturday. The author of the play, which took Broadway by storm, has indeed writ ten a perfect vehicle for Corinne Griffith and Conway Tearle. Life is treated fairly and truthfully and the drab sides bared. Yet with all its daring philosophy, a sincere and ten der love story is told. Other players in the First National picture, which John Francis Dillon di rected, are Sylvia Breamer, Myrtle Stedman, Charlie Murray, Phyllis Haver, Charles Gerald, Edith Ran som, Alma Bennett and Dorothy Brock. Beautiful women; gorgeous gowns; costly gems; spectacular scenes; mag nificent sets; everything that makes for a big picture. Consider the lilies of the field. They toil not; they spin not; yet Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.—Adv. Highly colored evidence. Nancy: “Jedge, sah, I’se don’ cum fer a divorce fum mah man.” Judge: “On what grounds, ma dam?” “Fer infidelity, sah.” “Infidelity? Who is the other wo man in the case?” “Other woman, sah? Dey ain’t no other woman, but ouah preachah don’ tole me mah man am a infidel.”—Wil liam Baxter. THE INSPIRED FRESHMAN. Shure a file would only roughen them up.” And Micky had the right idea even if he got the boss’s idea wrong. For there is a tool for every job. And a good tool for that particular job will save time.
