They had a mighty good team and if they can down S. M. U. and Baylor we’ll appreciate it. * * * Texas put a rumor the other day that their track team, to-wit: Sapp, Reese, Jackson and Gilstrap, did not register for the new term and that this would materially weaken their chances at the championship. Next day we notice that Messrs. Sapp and Reese had returned but so far there is no word of the other prodigals. Of course we sympathize with them, oh I yes of course we do, but at the same time it’s a shame that Thames and Youngblood didn’t get dissatisfied too. ❖ * ❖ Texas has a new basketball find in this boy Nation that they are using at forward. He practically won the first Southwestern game for them and ought to get better as the season grows older. ❖ * sk Had a great laugh on the south paw sport writer, Keith. He’s my basketball expert, he rooms with Sid Stout, and I got him to write up T. C. U. In his comparison he forgot all about Cantelmi, the star of the series. He said he knew that there was someone he had forgotten but he couldn’t remember who it was. Oh, these southpaws. 5{J * * Strange to say this Contelmi isn’t always the wonderful forward that he appeared in the first game. He’s one of these in and outers and he happened to be right that night. Tay lor is the forward that beat Rice and ! is considered the better of the two men. 5f» 5}l j{C This Big George is sure enough big and ugly but he was also a power on both defense and offense. Now we know how those teams felt when they playd against Tiny Keen last year, j 5fc 5jS SjC Baylor is the next on the list and gang they have a powerful team. Captain Fullingim is no slouch and Country Williamson, Bennie Strick land, Warren Woodson, Chamberless, Jones and the rest of that overgrown bunch will make up into a powerful . basketball quint. Bridges won many ! championships before he came to Baylor and for the last three years he has done fairly well with a one- man team. This year he has the ma terial so look out! * 5lS 5jC From Baylor the boys go to S. M. U. and even though the Methodists were beaten by Oklahoma A. and M. they have a wonderful team. They had about eight lettermen to start the season with and that ought to just about cinch anybody’s champion ship. THIRD BATTALION WHIPS THE AIR SERVICE With an overpowering passing and swweping end-run attack, the Third Battalion defeated the Air Service by three touchdowns, the final score be ing 18 to 0. Berry of the Third bore brunt of the backfield work for that organization, handling all their pass- Here’s Thanking You I For your liberal patronage during the holidays and extending to you a hearty invitation to visit us during the ensuing year. Waldrop’s Store) ’Twas Said: A coal ■ saving hotel man who had been frequently called down for cold rooms, was called up at 2 a. m. by one of his guests as follows: Guest—“Hello! HELLO! I want another room.” Proprietor—“Aw, go to bed. You’ll be all right in the morning.” Guest—“HELLO! H-E-L-L-O!! You gotta change my room now.” Proprietor—“Aw, your room’s all right. What’s the matter with it?” Guest—“For one thing—it’s on FIRE!” Well, that’s that, and shows it’s hard to satisfy every one. And yet that is just what we are here for—to give the greatest amount of satisfaction in ser vice as well as in the particular article you buy.
