the A. and M. duchess as the corona
tion ceremonies begin.
With their escort of uniformed mil
itary men the A. and M. duchess and
maid have always been one of the
most distinctive parties that have
participated in the proceedings of
royal effects making up the corona
tion ceremony of the King and Queen
Cotton. The greatest ovation given
by the many spectators who witnessed
the courtly proceedings last year
was bestowed when the A. and M.
duchess was announced and moved
out on the floor, escorted by the group
of white uniformed men with their
gold insignia and sparkling sabers
worn at their side.
The party that will represent A.
and M.. at the Cotton Palace will
leave Monday for Waco and will re
main there during the week, taking
part in all the festivities connected
with the Cotton Palace.

retinue of the Spanish Court, came
the troop of jolly troubadours with
their gay songs and sprightly dance.
After the troubadours came the
equestrians mounted on their gal
lant steeds. The entire party with
striking and brilliant costumes was
indeed a very beautiful sight.
After the pagent show was com
pleted, there followed five great acts
presented to the multitude that
thronged the sides of the pavilion.
The acts were almost without prece
dent. The chariot race was a thriller

from beginning to end and never had
such speed been seen in this part of
the country. Daring riders exhibited
their prowess and risked their lives
to show their proficiency as broncho
busters and steer riders. For the first
time in forty nine years a real bull
fight took place on Texas soil, and
this was the time old “Doc” Schmidt
gigged the bull. This added attrac
tion was made possible by special
legislation, which was obtained by
Dr. Bizzell last week at Austin. The
five ways through college ishowed
some of the advantageous methods
employed by students to get through
college. These plans when well car
ried out will reduce the percentage
of failures. The freshmen showed
some skill in capturing the elusive
greased porkers, due no doubt to
their practice with greasy dishes in
the mess hall.
The pavilion was crowded to the
utmost and it was estimated that
the crowd numbered about fifteen
hundred. The gate receipts were well
over six hundred dollars. This sum
will go a long way to help send the
stock judging team to Chicago next
month. The rodeo was a great suc
cess and was among the best ever
staged here.
