NUMBER ONE
This is the “Registration Bat.” We
do not know of any previous staff that
has attempted to have its first issue
appear on registration day and due
to congestion of the registration pe
riod, the flurry of hand-shaking, and
all, we have found it a tedious under
taking. So if its general appearance
seems rather jilted or crude we beg
apology. But we assure you our good
intentions deserve an “A”.
TRUE BLUE FANS
The advertisers in this paper are
all high class firms and are heartily
endorsed by the upper classmen. You
will not make a mistake by patroniz-
into these men. Without them the Bat
could not exist. This is your paper.
Turn about is fair play. Therefore,
support the men who support you.
Not only go to them to supply your
own wants but use your influ
ence and speak a gool v/ord for
them whenever possible. They sup
port the school in every way, not
only its publications but also its ath
letics and various other activities.
They are your friends. Why not you
be theirs?
“FISH”
Today marks your start upon a new
lap of life. You are beginning the
foundation of your college career.
During this year the pillars are erect
ed upon which you will each year add
another story of your college life. You
will also make the impression that
lasts long after your graduation. It
is therefore up to you to make the
most out of this first year. Enter in
to the different activities of the Col
lege. Stay behind your athletic teams.
Enjoy life. In fact make your founda
tion sufficiently strong for the com
pleted structure of your life to be
able to withstand all the winds of ad
versity.
“Y” HANDBOOK
The Battalion wishes to commend
the rpen who have made possible the
publication of the little handbook of
information for incoming freshmen.
It contains much about the College
that should interest the new student
and in addition gives much good ad
vice that should not be ignored.
The Bat mentions for special at
tention, page eighteen, entitled “Fish
Don’ts. It would be well for all to
read this page until the thoughts set
forth on it have been thoroughly
grasped. Many of them are old tra
ditions of the school and have helped
establish that famous Aggie Spirit.
The remainder could be followed by
the old boys as well as the new to
good advantage.
GREETINGS
The “Battalion” is the one and on
ly paper published by the student
body of A. and M. College. We are
not as fortunate as the other schools
near large cities whose daily news
paper gives ample publicity to its
every happening no matter how triv
ial. For this reason alone the “Bat”
should be as broad and as far reach
ing as possible. It is the medium
through which you make your opin
ions public. It is your paper. It’s
success depends on you. Do not leave
it to some one else but feel its your
responsibilities upon your own
shoulders. If it is to be a school pa
per it cannot be the result of the
individuals on the staff, it must be
the voice of the student body. We do
not solicit your contributions—they
are expected. Let it become a reg
ular Friday expressions “The Bat
comes out tonight.”
HOW DOES YOUR ORGANI
ZATION STAND
This is a question we will attempt
to answer thru these columns. The
Battalion is going to stage a big cir
culation drive. We are going to at
tempt to put this publication back
upon the high plane which it has oc
cupied in previous years. How about
the folks at home ? Do they receive
first hand information about the ac
tivities of the college that we all love ?
Buy them a subscription to the only
college paper published by the cadets
that they may learn of our athletic
achievements and social activities.
Rules.
1. This drive closes at midnight
Friday, September 30. At this time
all organization first sergeants must
check in to The Battalion staff of this
paper.
2. The standing of the various or
ganizations will be based upon the per
cent of additional copies subscribed
(that is, those subscriptions covered
by the blanket tax shall not count on
this contest). For example if each
member subscribes for one additional
copy, their standing shall be 100 per
cent.
33. To the organization winning
this contest The Battalion staff will
award the privilege of publishing one
edition of the paper; the printing of
this edition to be paid for by The
Battalion.
4. The special edition will con
tain write-ups and other material of
concern to members of that particular
organization and shall be published by
their editorial staff.
Let your organization be 100 per
cent A. and M. Put you and yours
on the map.
I love to walk.
Last Sunday I took the most won
derful stroll.
I went for quite some distance
through the park, thoroughly enjoy
ing every breath of the cool, crisp
air. I felt like a new man as I hasten
ed onward, increasing my speed at
every step. I walked on and on,
drinking in the beauty of all about
me. It was wonderful.
Finally I picked her up!
