    SOCIETY AND ITS EFFECT UPON
US.
The usual task of registering and
various other things have taken up
everyone’s time and at preesent new
students may feel that the place pre
sents a x'ather dull appearance. But
we feel sure that with the coming
of a new week things may brighten
up.
The senior class will be responsi
ble for the first attempt at some
method of preparing for permanent
entertainment. It remains for them
to select some competent social sec
retary who will be able to arrange
for the pleasant social events which
we enjoyed the past session. Person
ally we believe that the many dances
we enjoyed last year added a bit of
enjoyment to our college life which
would be hard to secure from any
other source. When we consider the
fact that an unusually high standard
of grades was made by students last
year we are forced to wonder why.
So far as the rules of the college are
concerned, we find no great change
except in the line of allowing the
students more social privileges. This
one change was enough, however,
to insure a better satisfied and more
pleasant group of students which in
turn served to give the college a
better satisfied group of professors.
The whole thing may be summed up
by saying that the degree of content
ment found among any student body
determines the success of the school
year, and the policy adopted by Col
lege authorities last year in regard
to the betterment of social condi
tions is the policy which will bring
satisfaction to students.
So far as departing from the rules
which are so clearly set forth in our
beloved College Regulations you will
find that such has not been done, in the
past, and it is not suggested that it
ever be done. But with the change of
times and with the departure of hi
larious nights spent when only boys
were allowed, it has become necess-
sary to replace these wild nighcs
with some kind of entertainment
which college authorities know about
and have consented to. For if it be
come necessary to change the color
of the sacred Blue Book let it be
hoped that it will not be made
“Bluer.”
PALESTINE PEOPLE
FOND OF FISH
Palestine, Texas,
September 20, 1921.
Editor Battalion.
Dear Friend:
College Station, Teexas.
Perhaps the attached clipping
might interest the readers of the
Battalion. We send it to you any
way and are leaving it to you fel
lows to see that these “fish” get the
proper training.
Sincerely yours
J. O. Cutter,
President Anderson County A. &
M. Club.
The A. & M. Club Entertains Fish.
It was a happy party at Bratton’s
Carolina last evening, when the An
derson County A. & M. Club enter
tained nine of the Palestine High
School boys who are leaving to be
part of the “fish” of this institution.
A splendid supper was enjoyed,
and after the repast a vote of thanks
was given Mrs. McNaughton for
beautiful flowers contributed for the
occasion. Also a vote of sympathy
for Prof. Bonner Frizzell, and regret
THE BATTALION
that he could not be present because
of his illness. An hour was spent in
pleasantries, advice and reminiscen
ces; and the boys were sent away this
morning full of pep and enthusiasm
for the old school.
Palestine and Anderson county are
contributing a fine bunch of boys to
A. & M. this year, and they will oe
heard from.
Smoke Up.
Now father chews his big cigar
While mother “rolls her own”.
Dear sis is strong for tailor mades,
And likes to smoke alone.
Aunt Tabby likes a long cheroot,
While Willie shoots the snipe;
Big brother swipes his pills from sis.
And grandma hits the pipe.
—Life.
“Remember, Charlie dear, I al-
way love like this” she sighed as she
nestled a little closer to him.
“Yes! Yes!” murmured he absent
ly, “So I have heard! So I have
heard!
—Lehigh Burr.
