THE BATTALION
BEST HIGH SCHOOL MEN OF
TEXAS TO BE HERE SAT.
(Cintinued from Page 1)
here. In this way tiring preliminar
ies are done away with, every good
man in the state, whatever his team
mates may be, is given a chance to
show what is in him, and the ex
pense of the meet is lowered. The
plan seems to be the best possible
and promises to be adopted perman
ently.
It is difficult to estimate the value
of High School Day to A. and M.
These men will be out in the col
leges of Texas in the next year or
so. We want them to come down
here. Our AllSouthwestern teams in
football and basketball are just indi
cations of what we are going to do
in future years. But we can’t do it
unless we get good men from the
high schools. It’s up to us to show
these men what we have here. Let
them taste of the A. and M. pep and
life—and we won’t lack good ma
terial next year. McQuillen is chair
man of the Reception Committee.
The high school men will be quar
tered with cadets. Make them feel
at home, men, and tell them what
we have.
Many of the men are expected to
arrive in time for the Rice-A. and M.
track meet, Friday afternoon. All
will be here for Friday night. The
Council is expecting some hundred
and fifty. High Schools and Acad
emies will be in the same division.
Saturday will be a holiday. The
morning will be taken up with pre
liminaries. Finals will be run Sat
urday afternoon. That night at the
Gym exhibition boxing and wrest
ling matches will entertain the visit
ors and the corps. Mr. Fox says
several dusky pugilists will box in
the rough and old African style. The
tickets at $1.00 admit to morning,
afternoon and night. The ex
penses of the meet are paid entirely
with the money thus derived. But
your money alone wont make it suc
ceed. Be out there and be there
with pep.

SGTS. SMART AND HYLAND
Two men who have upheld the
highest ti'aditions of the army, who
are loyal to A. and M. and who are
friends of every cadet in the corps!
Who is the man that has a cheerful
“Me Lad” for everyone and who
radiates more genuine friendliness
than any man you ever met? Who is
the man who has helped many a
“guy” out of a hole when he was
snowed in with demerits? Who are
the men who are absolutely four
square, who are alw’ays on duty,
who are gentlemen in the highest
sense of the word and who are an
essential part of this institution?
To our mind these characters live
in the persons of Sgts. Smart and
Hyland. There is not a man to gain
say that statement and there is not
a man in the corps who would not
swear by them. It takes men to
make an institution.
