THE BATTALION
NEXT WEEK BIG TIMES TO
ALL AT OLD A. AND M.
(Continued from Page 1)
and the enjoyment period entered
upon. The grand march starts at 9
p. m., so make your arrangements
accordingly because Kitty Gordon,
Elsie Ferguson, Norma Talmadge or
whoever you may be bringing down
simply must not miss being in the
style display. Intermission at 12 p.
m. with recall to be sounded at 12 :30
promptly—closing at 3 a. m. The
admission is three jewish ambitions
per pair.
Friday night the Ross Volunteers
as an organization, prseent the big
dance of the series to the student
body and their friends. The same
hours, etc. apply here also. Capt.
Waller T. Burns will lead the pro
cessional which will end by enter
ing onto our second night of danc
ing enjoyment. No charges what
ever outside of making it your duty
to see that everyone has a good time.
As desert after a big luncheon or
banquet, comes the Saturday night
affair at which a mimimum charge of
one wheel will be made. This strict
ly informal affair starts at 8:30 p.
m. and ends at midnight. Don’t
think of missing this one as it would
be similar to missing that Camel af
ter meals, etc. For stags, alias those
Unlucky creatures who either havn’t
the energy to note and care for some
damsel or have been presented with
a sack in the last few minutes of
play, the following provisions are
made: All dance encores are break-
ins except the first dance on the
first night; no breakins until after
the intermission on Friday night and
all break-ins Saturday night.
No warnings or instructions need
be issued as to how to conduct your
self on the floor—if you don’t know
by now, your presence is not de
sired. Everyone knows what is
meant by desirable and we expect
it of everyone as gentlemen to ex
ercise your judgment. Cooperate
with the management and make
these dances a climax in their line.
COLLEGE POST MEETS
The College Post of the American
Legion became a definite part of its
members’ thoughts last night at its
first social gathering. The meeting
was called to order by Mr. Mayo, as
temporary chairman, in the Chem
istry lecture room. It was decided
unanimously that Mr. Ike Ashburn
would preside over the social hour
and awaiting his arrival, officers
for the year were elected. Mr.
Clarence Braden was made Post
Commander, Mr. C. C. B. Warden,
vice-commander; Mr. S. G. West,
adjutant; Mr. R. H. Ramsey, histor
ian and Mr. W. P. Orm, war risk
clerk. Mr. Ashburn was nominated
for the office of Post Chaplain but
the election of this officer was post
poned until his requirements could
be definitely settled on.
An interesting discussion on the
Bonus Bill now before Congress was
held. Many who are in support of
the bill and others who are against
the spirit of the bill gave rather in
teresting opinions on the measure,
and, though Congress has deferred
action until after the decisions reach
ed by the National Conventions have
been made, the Post held a straw
vote to determine the attitude of its
members, and 23 voted against the
bill to 21 for it.
Mr. Ashburn presided over the
“experience meeting” and after
starting the evening with a couple of
sky-high stories he quietly related
the three most impressive incidents
in his military career as the sight of
the great convoy, a Fourth of July
celebration in England, and an ac
tual war experience. The members
were called upon one after the other
to briefly state their names, organi
zations and most thrilling incident of
their war career. There were men
who fought the battles of Travis,
Bowie, Taylor, Wheeler, and Leon
Springs over here, the battles of
Coniac Hill, and the Rest Camp in
France; there were men who carry
treasured in their hearts the mem
ories of the S. A. T. C., the C. I.
O. T. S., the R. O. T. C. and others
who went down with torpedoed
boats going over; men with thor
ough training in radio telegraphy
who cheerfully unloaded car after
car of corned beef; there were men
who “got theirs” two hours after
going into action, and there were
others who outside of a bunch of ma
chine gun bullets and higb explosives
had had no “experiences.”
There was laughter and pathos in
the stories of the men who had been
an active part of the greatest of all
games. The members of the College
Po'T know each other now, and they
feel that in the Post they have a com
mon interest, a common responsibil
ity. The hour of memories through
the drifting smoke of good cigars
has made this Post of the American
Legion a vital element in the lives of
its members.
