WINS SECOND; SCORE 3 TO 0—ONE HIT GAME Playing in great style behind Hig’s superb pitching A. and M. took the second game from the owls Wednes day afternoon. The feature of the game was the pitching of Higgin botham who held the visitors to one scratch hit and scored two himself. The A. and M. boys profited by Rice’s errors and annexed three runs while the feathered birds were dealt a shout-out. The battery for the game was Higginbotham and Crawford, Dyer and Matthewson. First inning—Rice—Smith grab bed a rebound off Hig’s hand getting first Rice man; second, easy fly to Alexander in right; third, man whipped. A. and M.—Lackey out on ground ball, second to first; Lewis to first; Lewis same way to pitcher; Lefty Matthews caught the ball on the end of his bat for a liner to Powell. Second inning—Rice—Dyer easy out on grounder Hig to Rothe at first; Waters whipped; McHeywood ditto. A. and M.—Powell juggled Hig’s grounder, safe at first; Glezen bunted and O. Heywood errored on receiving throw; Alexander repeated and Heywood dropped another leav ing bases full; Rhode hit a long fly to left and Hig scored on the throw- in; Crawford fanned; Smith hit to Waters who forced Alex out. One run. Third inning—Rice—O. Heywood bunted to Captain Lewis who failed to pick it up; Matthewson bunted to Hig who threw Heywood out at sec ond; Williams hit to Rohde who threw Matthewson out at second; Thomas hit a slow one to Lewis and was thrown out at first. A. and M. —Lackey safe at first on a hard hit through second; Lewis sacrificed Red to second; Powell threw Williams out at first; Red going to third; Hig hit to first and the umps called him out on a close decision. Fourth inning—Nash fanned; Powell bunted a short one to Cap tain Lewis; Dyer hit a high fly to Glezen. A. and M.—Glezen hit to Waters who threw it wide of first base; Alex bunted and Heywood dropped Dyer’s throw and Glezen beat the ball to third; Alex stole sec ond; Rothe hit to Waters who threw Glezen out at the plate; Rothe stole second; Alex out at home on a steal and Crawford hit through short stop scoring Rohde; Smith hit same place and Lackey out Waters to 0. Hey wood.—One run. Fifth inning—Rice—Waters hit a slow one to Smith who threw out at first; M. Heywood hit a high one to Smith; Smith went over for a wide one and threw 0. Heywood out at the first sack. A. and M.—Lewis hit one in the old reliable safety zone, between the short stop’s legs; Lefty sacrificed him to second and Hig put him on third by a slow throw from short stop and was safe at first; Waters muffed Glezen’s liner but tagged out Hig and Matthewson dropped the ball when Lewis slid home; Alex hit a high one to second. —One run. Sixth inning—Rice—Matthewson hit a high foul for Lewis; Williams hit a slow ball and Lackey fielded the grounder and he was out at first; Thomas whiffed. A. and M.— Rohde out by the short stop,out at first; Crawford hits for two bases; Smith sacrificed him to third where he died when Lackey hit a rain bringer to left. Seventh inning—Rice—Nash tried Lefty with a high one; Powell hit a high one back of third which Smith went over and grappled; Dyer flied out to Alexander. A. and M.— hit to short who threw the ball out of the park; Lefty filed ont to right; Hig hit safely; Glezen hit to short who essayed the play at third but pulled the baseman off the bag on the throw; Alex whiffed and Rohde hit a high foul for the edification of the catcher. Eighth inning—Rice—Waters hit to Smith for Rhode’s put out; M. Heywood hit to Lewis for another out at first; O. Heywood hit one back to Hig and was out at first sack. A. and M.—Crawford hit a hard one to right; Smith out Dyer to first; Lackey out short stop to first. Ninth inning—Rice—Lackey er- ored on Matthewson’s/ grounder; Williams hit a high foul which Hig came over and grabbed; Matthewson was forced at second on Thomas’ grounder to Hig; Nash flied out to Matthews.
