    THE BATTALION
3
LORD CHESTERFIELD ENTER
TAINS
One of the most notable social
events of the season was the week
end house party given by Capt.
banning in his downtown apart
ments. If bystanders had noticed
they would have seen gorgeous limo-
uisenes rolling up to the apartments
and depositing their distinguished oc
cupants at his door. All were warm
ly greeted by the Captain.
The series of entertainments
started with a box party at the Gym
where was witnessed the basketball
game between Texas University and
the world famous Texas Aggies.
After the game all returned to the
apartments where a midnight lunch
consisting of ice cream and pickles
was served. The most pleasant sur
prise of the evening was a series of
curtain lectures by Lieut. Leidolf.
Breakfast Saturday morning was
served in a very artistic manner at
Casey’s Tea Room. That afternoon
a matinee party was given at the
Queen Theatre.
Sunday morning most of the of
ficers were compelled to report
to duty with their organiza
tions. Those who were more for
tunate remained and that afternoon
journeyed out to Capt. Manning’s
summer home on the shore of the
Fish Tank. A very pleasant way was
spent in hunting, fishing and boat
ing. Monday afternoon brought this
gay house party to a close. Needless
to say it will long be remembered
by those who were fortunate enough
to attend.
Among those present were Major
McManus, Capts. Crook, Heard,
Lieuts. Fowler, Peteet, Leidolf, So-
Relle, and Barber.
THE ELECTRICAL SHOW
BOTTLE SIDES
It is said that one of the chief
reasons of Casey’s life is that the
Juniors have only one banquet a
year.
* ^
G. D. Humphreville, captain of G
Company in ’18 is spending a few
days on the campus preparatory to
going to Cuba to work as assistant
experimental engineer for the Cuba
Cane and Sugar corporation.
* * *
It has always been a c'ustom for
company clerks to be excused from
reveille. Hence it has occurred to
some of the more serious minded
men in the corps that the least re
ward that could be accoi'ded these
valiant men would be to grant them
an equal privilege. Why not have
this for a subject of discussion in
the new debating society which has
recently been formed?
* * *
Company rifle teams are being
organized. At Camp Zachary Tailor
five out of seven men made high av
erages on the range, one being a
marksman, two sharp shooters and
two expert rifle men. A good team
is assured with these men in ad
dition to a few who are now knock
ing the old target right along. ,
* * *
If the Juniors continue to starve
themselves it is greatly to be feared
that when the banquet really comes
off there will be a shortage of chow.
They are getting that gaunt hungry
look.
* * *
The Juniors are good when it
comes to the old game of sack-hold
ing. They must have had vast ex
perience in the manly art of snipe
hunting.
The treat of the season is coming
on the second of April, when the
Electrical Engineering students and
E. E. Department will put on an
electrical novelty show. It will be
something new, something great, ed
ucational as well as entertaining.
This is going to be a show that you
can’t miss and get by with. You
must come over and see the man
with the electricity in his finger, the
match stand on its head, the funny
ring, the mysterious disappearance
of black smoke, and many other
things that will keep you laughing
for a whole evening and guessing
the remainder of your life. And
just think—you have an invitation
and it’s all free.
A drive to have telephones in
stalled in the room of the dormi
tories in order to allow the students
the comfort of their rooms and the
benefit of the lectures at the same
time is being contemplated.
The camps for the instruction of
students in Field Artillery in the col
leges in Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona,
and New Mexico, will be held at
Camp Knox, Kentucky.
The camps for instruction in in
fantry for those students of the Re
serve Officers’ Training Corps at in
stitutions in New Mexico and Ari
zona will be held at Presidio, Cali
fornia.
