THE BATTALION 5 REVIEW OF BASKETBALL SINCE ITS INAUGURATION AT A. AND M. COLLEGE IN 1913. (Contnued from Page 3) with Simmons College of Abilene, both non-conference teams. The Aggies reached the goal this season sought by every athletic team, that of going through the entire sea son without a defeat. The team scor ed 559 points during the season while their opponents could score but 248 points against the fautless guarding of Hartung, Dwyer, Williams and Pierce. This team finished a season that will go down in history, not only history of the College, but of the Southwestern conference as well. It is very seldom indeed that a basket ball team goes through a season with out a defeat and more especially a team that plays four games each with the four leading teams in the confer ence. A more fitting climax could hardly have been arranged for a bas ket ball season than the one which has just closed with a victory for the Aggies over their ancient rivals, the Longhorns. The Aggies and the Longhorns met four times on the court this season and four times have the Longhorns been forced to take the short end of the score. In these four games the Aggies scored 76 points while all the Longhorns could score was 45, or an average of 19 1920 Schedule With A. and M. points per game for the Aggies and 11 points per game for the Longhorns. A. & ^1. teams this school year won three high honors. The Aggie foot ball team, it will be remembered, won the Southwestern conference title, scoring 275 points to their opponents nothing in nine contests on the grid iron while the Stock Judging team, though not an athletic team, won first honors at the International Stock Judging contest where eighteen teams representing as many states were competing, and now comes the A. and M. basket ball team with a conference title. The Aggies started their victorous season by defeating the Baylor Medics in two pre-season games in Decem ber. Then come the Baylor Bears for two defeats. Simmons College was defeated on the local court in one fast game and S. M. U. was given similar teatment in two contests. The team journeyed to Houston for a brace of games with the Owls which result ed in two easy victories for the Ag gies. The following week the Aggies made a swing around the circuit meeting Texas, S. M. U. and Baylor all in a row and returned to College with six wins to their credit. On this trip the Aggies practically cinched the State championship. Rice came to College for two defeats and the Aggies closed the season by winning a couple of games from Texas on the local court. Complete Results: Opponents.
