THE BATTALION
GET READY TO BE HAPPY FOR
THE “GLAD GIRL” IS COMING
TO TOWN
Get ready to be happy.
Get ready to sunny up a bit.
Pollyanna, the “Glad Girl” is com
ing to town.
The famous little exponent of
optimism will be in this city, Satur
day, November 8, matinee and night
at the Lyric Theatre.
The “Pollyanna” stories born of
the pen of Eleanor H. Porter, of
Boston, has brought more happiness
into the world than any literature in
years. And their dramatization by
Catherine Cushing has added to the
joy. Pollyanna, herself, is a little
girl, the daughter of a minister in a
remote rural district. The church of
which her father is the pastor is very
poor and the family, for existence,
has to depend largely on barrels of
clothing and provisions sent by the
Ladies’ Aid Society of a rich city
church. It is out of these barrels
that Pollyanna has derived all her
Christmas presents, although often
times the barrels yield only the pract
ical things of life. For instance,
Pollyanna once set her heart on be
coming the possessor of a doll. She
longed to mother a doll. But when
the barrel came, instead of what she
hoped and prayed for there came,
a pair of crutches. And what use
had a bright, healthy little girl for
crutches? She had use—they served
to make her glad that she did not
have to use them. That’s the spirit
of Pollyanna.

“Fish” Waid Willis seems to have a
peculiar desire to visit all rooms on
the fourth door of Leggett when he
is in charge. If he fails to put his
hardboiled countenance in every
room at least every fifteen minutes
his fellow “Fish” get worried and be
lieve the Sophs have intercepted their
inspection.

The Infantry birds say they can’t
help but notice the peculiar walk of
all the Artillery Sophs, when they
return from “Monkey Drill”. Yes,
but brother, the Artillery Sophs will
notice your walk at the end of our
annual hike. Here’s to the horses.
Co. G. Infantry went over the top
with the highest percentage of sub
scriptions to the “Bat”. This makes
four times for Co. G in the last five
years. Watch for our special edi
tion.
The G Company “Fish” believe
that after Hallowe’en and Thanks-
