The prospects for a winning’
basket ball team are very bright.
Under the efficient direction of Hu-
gon the following men, Beck, Vinth-
er, Wyatt, Lamkin, Adams, Nabors
and Hayden are fast developing into
a classy basketball team.

A few “Fish” were heard to re
mark that they expected to save their
boxes of home-cooked cakes and
candy for “cushless days.” With
such decisions some mothers we know
will be kept busy in the pantry.
With two “Reds” in the Company
acting as our honorable officers, we
are inclined to think we are near the
danger zone.

At the Company meetings held on
the fourth floor of Goodwin, Co. G,
every week, the old time pep and
spirit, which virtuous “Cat” craves
for the Corps, are shown to still ex
ist. After the adjournment, which
is held according to the rules and reg
ulations of the Blue Book, at call to
quarters, it may be truthfully said,
“a pleasant time was had by all.”
* * *
Just to show that they are up at
the top in everything, the “Fish” of
Co. G had a record breaking attend
ance at Sunday School last Sunday.
* H* *
Requesting a few old boys to guide
them so they might not go astray,
they turned out in a body and in
creased the attendance of our class
over five hundred per cent.
* * *
Co. G is well represented in every
thing. An unusual number even go
ing to chapel.

On Thursday, Oct. 23, a company
hVHBBHpRis'held on the fourth floor
of^^^^lwin Hall. There were
speeches by the officers and men and
the past history of the company was
reviewed. It was shown, among
other things, that with the exception
of the year of 18-19, G-Company
has had the highest percentage of
subscriptions to the Battalion of any
company for the last four years.
This is a fine record and the new
men of the company are determined
to uphold it. They are confident
that the entire company will have
over one hundred per cent subscrip
tions this pear.

Sunday, Oct. 26, it was announced
that Captain C. F. Boulden, First
Lieutenant I. F. SoRelle and Sec
ond Lieutenant G. W. Peteet were
elected members of the Ross Volun
teers. There were many congratula
tions, for these men are all good of
ficers and are very popular with the
men of their company.

On the fourth floor og Goodwin
Hall one may see the wonderful
“Cave o fthe Winds,” “Horse-Shoe
Den,” “Fish Doodle-Bug, the strong
Man,” “Fish Carroll, the Midget,”
and many other of natures wonders
and masterpieces.
* * *
One of the advantages of going to
school is that one learns of these
places and sees these sights without
having to make such long and tedious
trips in quest of new scenes and ex
citement.
* * *
Fish: How can I make a pair of
trousers last?
Soph: Make the coat first.

Company C is honored by the pres
ence of Cicero II. His time is a
trifle later than that o fhis predeces
sor, but from all indications he will
surpass by far all distinctions and
THE BATTALION
honors gained by his Latin fore
father.

There has bee nmuch discussion
as to whether pants is singular or
plural. It seems to us that when
men wear pants it is plural, and when
they don’t wear pants it is very
singular.

As to talent Company C produces
“Fish” Chapman for his eloquent de
livery of the Spanish tongue but his
pronunciation is extremely doubtful.

The notorious Company C, In
fantry, is rapidly spreading her wings
to success and victory. Last week
the Varsity squad challenged C Com
pany basketball scrubs. Tubby
Graves was the challenger and chal
lenged them with a smile. The chal
lenge was accepted and during the
scrimmage several of the good men on
the main team called “time-out.” The
score was close. This is Company
C all over, pep and a lot of fight.

The J. O. Hallmark Co will im
mediately begin drilling for oil on
the famous lease situated five miles
southeast of Bryan on the Military
Walk, in the close vicinity of Good
win Hall. President Hallmark states
that he is confident of a remarkable
gusher, as he has seen practically
pure oil oozing through the pave
ment of this walk.
As there a few shares in this com
pany left, it is the very chance for
the ambitious public to get in on this
sure-fire proposition.
For particulars, address, “Fish”
James Orlando Hallmark, president
of THE J. O. HALLMARK CO.
(Inc.) of Goodwin Hall, Texas.
R. O. T. C. NOTES
Transfer of Capt. Jenkins and Capt.
Dunkum
Orders were received recently by
Colonel Muller, head of the R. O. T.
C. unit here, authorizing the transfer
of Capts. Jenkins and Dunkum to
Camp Travis, Texas. These men have
been connected with the College for
the past six or seven months and
were very efficient officers.
Captain Albert L. Tuttle, recently
assigned to the infantry R. O. T. C.
unit at this College, has arrived and
assumed his new duties. He is as
sistant professor of military science
and tactics and instructor in infantry.
The war department recently au
thorized the formation of a cavalry
unit at this institution, and applica
tions are now being made for that
branch by the cadets. The hours of
instruction are the same in all branch'
es of the R. O. T. C. The question
of organization has not yet been de
termined and will be determined by
the number of students desiring to
enter this unit. The cavalry unit
will be maintained in one of two
ways: namely, without separation as
an independent organization but in
connection with the infantry, having
certain cavalry instructions and parrs
of the infantry instructions; and the
second way it may be organized in
to a separate unit, having its own or
ganization and following its own
course of instruction.
One youthful supporter of the
team says she knows why so many
players of the opposing teams get
their heads hurt. She says it is be
cause “there is nothing in ’em.”
