here to break the routine of army life. The whole cadet corps needs to be “pepped” up and football is about the best “pep” dope ever in vented. Football prospects are good this year tho’ the team promises to be a lighter one than that of last year. What the team lacks in weight, how ever, will be made up in speed, and WOODROW WILSON Head-Coach Graves, Coach Cassidy and Trainer Edmundson are figur ing on putting out a fast, well-balan ced team that can meet all contend ers. A. & M. is certainly fortunate in having secured these three men to put it’s teams upon the field this year. Of last year’s team there are Wilson (captain and guard), Alex ander (end), Mahan (fullback), Garth (fullback), and Elam (quar terback), as a nucleus around whicn to construct this years team. Many good men of the scrub team and com pany teams who are showing up well in practice are Drake Htackle), Har rison (Q. B.), Townsdfpjr (end), Hor- rest '-’(end), Scudder! (tackle and guard), Ramsey (tackle and guard), Coit (end), Vandervoort (center), MAHAN Walker (end), and Martin (H. B.). Of the new men, those trying out for the team for the first time there are Pierce (center), Wilson (guard) Earl and Oscar Frazier (backfield), Weir (end), McDonough (H. B.), Garrison (H. B.), Davis (tackle), Millard (center), and Gillam (Q.B.). Many other new men v/hose names the editor was unable to secure are showing up good in scrimmage and will make A. & M. football history this year. Out of this wealth of material the College should certain ly put out a winning team this year. All that is now lacking is that old A. & M. “pep” and fight which will bud out when this “influenza” wave is over and quarantine is lifted. That old A. & M. spirit has never failed yet and will not fail now. As a sort of forecast for track, basket ball and baseball, we may say that never have the coaches had such a wealth of r ood material to draw from as is on hand here this year and every team put out this year should be a winner. ball men this year are Drake, Walk er, Vandervoort and Harting of Houston High. Some of the best bets for track honors are Earl and Oscar Frazier, Weir, Maxwell, Mahan (captain), Landon, Denny, Stein Lee, Hoag and Hugon. For baseball, much material is on hand tho’ none of last years team is back. A. & M. fans are not worrying about not putting out good team in every sport and will be right there with the “pep’’ all the time. Fish Gilliam, the skeeter-weight quarterback of the Scrubs, is aspir ing to the position of fullback. He laid out “Eddie” Mahan in scrim mage the other day and Eddie hasn’t been able to get back in the game. When “Heine” Weir and “Icky” Elam run their feet are not there when you reach for them. “Jimmie” Garth will soon be em ployed by the British Tank Service. One of their scouts watched him plunge line in scrimmage the other day and decided to use Garth instead of a drove of tanks in their next drive Berlinward. This Wilson of Wichita Falls looks like another McMurrev, the way he goes down under punts and in his tackling. Pierce of Denton certainly looks good at center, especially in defen sive work.
