THE BATTALION

K KOMPANY BANQUET.
Friday night at retreat, Captain
Copeland turned his company over
to Freshman Clark and this young
gentleman immediately showed mili
tary genius and capability by march
ing the company over to Casey’s
w.iere a splendid meal was being
served. At his command to “take
seats” the members of K Kompany
“fell to” with all heartiness. The
menu was as follows:
Lettuce Pickles
Buttered Toast
French Fried Potatoes
T Bone Steak with Brown Gravy
Apple and Mince Pie with
Chocolate and Vanilla Cream a la’
mode
Water with Crushed Ice
Cigars Makings Cigarettes
With the cigars came the speeches
delivered in order as called upon by
Fish Clark, toastmaster. Captain
Copeland addressed the assemblage
upon the subject of ‘K Kompany’.
Lieutenant Sexauer was then called
upon and was followed by “Rusty”
Warren, commissioned officer of
old F-2, the nucleus of the present
K company. His speech was mark
ed by wonderful delivery and force
fulness as well as unusual interest.
Major Rose, another invited guest,
made a short talk in which he ex
pressed his appreciation to the fish
and admiration for the entire com
pany as a body. Mr. Sam Martin
also of old F-2 was then called upon
and gave a very interesting speech
about the Foreign Legation. The
junior officers of the company then
made brief talks, Jim Porter, first
sergeant, proving what the the boys
have strongly suspected all along;
that he is the best “top Sergeant” of
the regiment, bar none. Fabian
made an interesting comparison be
tween roommates of fish and Senior
Classes respectively; and Derrick
probably made the hit of the evening
with his beautiful word picture of
“Fat” Dykes’ similarity to Venus de
Milo! (But Venus was a mile off).
Following this, “Queen” William
Friend made a speech that should go
down in the Morning Report, and
Dykes put Jim Ferguson in the shade
when it comes to a “come back”.
Kye Hall cleared the mystery of the
Rose Garden at Hotel Bryan and
Hugh Chapella of old F-2 gave a
clear, concise, statement as to the
most efficient methods of burning
barns! “Judge” McKinney and
“Hank” Calhoun represented the
fish class most efficiently and the
dinner was concluded with the melo
dious singing of “Sweet Mama” by
Mr. R. B. Goodman and a rousing
fifteen for the Fish led by Alex
Harris.
The invited guests were: Major M.
A. Rose, Mr. S. W. Martin, Lieut. G.
R. Warren, Sgt. Hugh Chapelle,
Drum Major Catfish Goodman, and
Mr. R. H. Gough.
On behalf of the “old boys” we
wish to state that this was the best
banquet ever and was well managed
and directed by Clark and his assist
ants, and that the menu was excel
lent and deliciously prepared. Thanks
to you every one. Fish! May your
feed next year be just as good y/hen
presented by the class of ’22.

K KOMPANY KLIPP1NGS.
“Red” Smythe and “T ” Hall
of K Kompany left Friday for' the
Y. M. C. A. Conference at Austin.
We know these fellows and each one
of us is assured no organization will
be bdtter represented than our own
“Y” here at college and we are es
pecially proud of having sent two
from this formerly “bad” company.
“Rabbi” Bertschler has returned
from a three-weeks’ visit to his Mis
sissippi home. He is sensitive and
we won’t say anything more except
we hope his trip was a pleasant one.
Since the banquet Friday night
there has been considerable illness
in K Kompany. We thought that
after seven months of Sbisa’s hasfi
these fellows would be able to tackle
a stew of barb wire and fish hooks
with cush ala brass tacks but 12”xl2”
T-bones are SO unusual we must not
criticise the fellows for weak consti
tutions.
Did you notice how the tired face
of the Inspector brightened up last
Wednesday when K Kompany came
striding along? He also remarked
that K Kompany had the cleanest and
neatest barracks. His greatest words
of praise did go to the band—but—
the Drum Major, Catfish Goodman,
is a K Kompany product, so there
you are again. K Kompany is al
ways ahead!
Mr. Malachi Hall of Bryan and
Company K brought his little sister
(?) out for supper Sunday night.
Possibly it was love and possibly was
a desire to display the fact that there
are good looks in the family! (Note:
She was not a blonde!!!)
Mr. John S. Calhoun, K Kompany,
addressed those present at the ban
quet Friday night on the Good Points
of Teneha—My Home Town. He says
they have beautifully winding rail
road tracks there, the curves being
so abrupt in places as to be called cor
ners and that hinges are necessary
on the boilers in order to allow the
engines to navigate. Many other
points of interest were brought out
and he concluded his speech with
the remarks that Teneha was an ideal
location on the road to turn around
at! Public speaking in his senior
year will be a crip for Hank. •
’21—
TALENTED ONES.
I' have heard some songs—
I have heard some more—
But the like of ‘‘Skinny’s”
I ain’t heard before!
I’ve heard Hawaians play their Euks-
I’ve sen ’em shake their feet—
But Cunnigham with the rawhide box
Has got the whole bunch beat!
I’ve sen Charles Chaplin—
I’ve read Bill Nye-—
But “Catfish” Goodman
Leaves them high and dry!
I’ve heard good music— '
Sweet and fine—
But from Moss & Moss, “Thank you,”
I’ll take mine!

Although holding down a corpor-

Wednesday night by buying pro

course this money was donated to
charity and was well appreciated.
More members are wanted to make
the club a success. One of our
rangy instructors wanted to join but
his fee was rejected. We move that
he be made Honorary Member of the
fraternity: I AM EASY.
