Practice wi(h the dots and dashes were (he main
stays of Sijjcmd Corps military training in 1917.
Study during this time was under pressure be
cause of the war in Europe and as usual A&M
graduates were very much in demand in military
circles.
Retreat formations were held on Military Walk
before marching into Sbisa Hall for the evening
meal in 1917. Huilding on the left is the Old
Chapel which was in the place of the present
Hart Hall.
Officers in the Corps in 1917 go through Saber Drill on the main
drill field During this period the officers carried the regular heavy
duty cavalry sword.
A&M
1917-18
Cadets pitch tents for practice in 1917. Housing
was not the problem, the Military Department
was conducting one of their corps wide classes.
Members of the Signal Corps put up “wireless”
apparatus on the drill field. Houses in the back
ground are along Quality Row, the old name of
the faculty’s housing aVea.
Files of horses perform a right turn during the drill period in 1917.
The Horse Cavalry was done away with at A&M at the time of
World War II.
