_ TO OWLS
In a Close Game Owls Hold Big End of
a 3-2 Score.
CHERRY STAR
In the first real game of the season
our boys failed to place enough figures
on the score card, under the column
headed “R” to spell a victory. Both
teams were in good shape, and the
scorer was not very busy in the error
column.
The Owls treated Olson rather badly
in the first inning. Clyce, the first
man up, was presented with a pass.
Then Betts irreverently poked a sin
gle to right field, Clyce going to third.
Chandler received free transportation.
Clyce was caught off thir base. Jour-
nay broke into the hit column by send
ing a single to right field, scoring
Betts. Rice 1, A. and M. 0.
After registering nothing but goose
eggs for six innings, Cherry of A. and
M. decided that the time for action had
arrived. So thinking, he sent the
sphere to left field for a three-base hit,
said hit greatly resembling a home
run. Powers scored. Thodberg fur
ther upset the Rice plans by singling
to right, scoring Cherry from third.
In the last half of this inning. Gar
ret of Rice reached first by the pain
ful method of being hit by a pitched
ball, stole second, was sacrificed to
third, and then sacrificed home. Rice,
5: A. & M. 2.
In the last half of the ninth the
Owls administered the knockout
drops. Wooten sent a three-bagger
to deep left and scored on a sacrifice
by McFarland.

THE COWBOY’S DREAM.
Last night as I lay on the prairie,
And looked a t the stars in the sky,
I wondered if ever a cowboy
Would drift o that sweet bye and
bye.
The road to that bright, happy region
Is a dim, narrow trail, so they say,
But the broad one that leads to per
dition
Is posted and blazed all the way.
They say there will be a great round
up,
And cowboys, like dogies, will
stand,
To be marked by the Riders of Judg
ment,
Who are Posted and know every
brand.
I know there’s many a stray cowboy
Who’ll be lost at that great final
sale,
When he might have gone in the
green Pasture,
Had he known of the dim, narrow
trail.
I wonder if ever a cowboy
Stood ready for the Judgment Day,
And could say to the Boss of the
Riders,
“I’m ready, come drive me away.”
And I’m afraid I’ll be a stray year
ling—
A maverick unbranded on high—
And get out in the bunch with the
“rustlers,”
When the Boss of the Riders goes
by.
For they tell of another big owner
Who’s ne'er overstocked, so they say.
But who always makes room for the
sinner
Who drifts from the straight, nar
row way.
They say he will never forget you.
That he knows every action and
look;
So, for safety, you’d better get
branded,
Have your name in the great Tally
Book. —Anonymous.
