IN THE COLLEGE WORLD.
D. U., Oct. 25.—Baylor’s faculty
committee on recognition of high
standard of scholarship announces
that, beginning next commencement,
the diplomas of students who have
a majority of their grades B “cum
laude” will be inscribed, “magna cum
laude” if the majority are A’s, and
“suma cum laude”" if all the grades
are A. The grades are to be taken
from the entire Baylor record of the
student.
B. U., Oct. 25. — That Baylor will
take advantage of the recent law of
Congress whereby colleges are issued
rifles by the War Department at the
ration of one rifle for every five mem
bers and 120 rounds of ammunition
for each individual of the club, is now
a sure thing. Application from the
War Department has been received
and Capt. F. O. Post of Waco, for
twenty years a member of the Nation
al Guard and making a place on every
Texas rifle team for the last dozen
years, will serve as volunteer instruc
tor for the Baylor marksmen.
B. U., Oct. 25.—Baylor voted student
self-government at a mass meeting of
500 students last Thursday night. A
committee of five seniors, three
juniors, two sophomores and one
freshman was appointed to draw up a
constitution and state the form of gov
ernment to a mass meeting nex week.
B. U., Oct. 25.—Two young Brazil
ians, one the son of a prominent at
torney and the father of the other a
member of the Federal Senate of Bra
zil, entered Baylor this week. This
gives Baylor seven Brazilians within
the last two years.
The University of Virginia will ac
cept cotton as tuition fee. The stu
dent gets a rate of 10 cents per pound
upon presenting receipts of cotton
which has been deposited in United
States warehouses.
Vermont has started a new college
store which is to be run by the stu
dents. It adjoins the library and the
same force that runs the store will
also have charge of the library. The
plan is to lower the price of books
and other necessaries and at the same
time to furnish a method of earning
money to needy students.
