COLLEGE SWEATER ON SHEEP CAUSES WONDER TO MANY. “Who is that walking around on his hand and knees?” This was the ques tion put by an interested looking young lady who leaned over the fence at the sheep pens and pointed out an object in an adjoining pen which ap peared to be a man with a loud red sweater on, crawling about with a herd of sheep. Upon investigation it was found that the supposed man was not a man at all, but a sheep, which was just like the other sheep in the pen, ex cept for the fact that he wore a bright red sweater, bearing the letters “A. & M.” The pen in which the deco rated sheep was found conslted of a prize exhibit of sheep from the Agri cultural and Mechanical College at College Station, and the solution of the pehnomenon was that an enthu siastic student had lent the prize winner his football jersey. Morrison of the highway division of the Civil Engineering De partment has been delivering lectures on highway engineering at Cross Plains and Rising Star. At the present Mr. Morrison has charge of the highway exhibit at the Dallas Fair. Prof. B. H. Coghlan of the Civil En gineering Department has been at Muldoon delivering talks on good roads. Afterwards he went to Dallas to arrange the highway exhibit. Dean Spence is continually receiving applications from various fairs for the highway exhibit. He has also receiv ed a large number of requests for speakers on good roads. From the number of enthusiastic letters concerning the highway ex hibits which have been received by the Civil Engineering Department from places where the exhibit has been shown it appears that the valuable work of the highway department is being appreciated by the people of the State. Mr. W. T. Boland, T3, was a. visitor on the campus this week. Mr. Bo land has been employed at Yoakum by the S. A. & A. P. Railway as rod- man, but has been laid off for 60 days on account of a reduction in forces. During this time he will work as a section hand in order that he may become more familiar with the every day problems of the maintenance of way department of a railroad. Textile Engineering. In the cotton classing department of the School of Textile Engineering a great deal of time has been given lately to the discussion of “half and half’’ cotton. This is a kind of cotton that produces one-half of its total weight in lint. The raising of this cotton is not proving as successful as some farmers thought it would. The reason for this is that when it sells at all it brings about two cents a pound less than ordinary cotton brings.
