LANDSCAPE GARDENING. Recent Addition to Curriculum Meets With Widespread Favor—Benefi cial Effects Are Noticeable. Last spring landscape gardening was given a try-out and the results obtained from the test made it im perative that this subject be at once placed in the college curriculum. It was decided that the course should be optional and open to bug hunters and engineers alike. The beauty of the new subject lies in the fact that it is entirely practical—no text book is used, nor is any preparation required, and furthermore no notes need be kept. The course possesses another advantage in that it may be entered at any time. The work is intensely interesting. Oh! what a pleasure to spend one’s spare time out in the glorious spring sunshine. The class has just finished a course in “Drainage and Leveling.” “Flower Gardens” and “Lawn Making” are next taken up, accompanied by side subjects too numerous to mention. “Grass Cutting” will take up consid erable time at the end of the course. The position of assistant director of the campus beautifying class is open at present, but will not remain so very long, if Dame Rumor is to be credited. Abbott is clamoring for the position, closely followed by Zuber and several other habitual “ram list fiends.” Durinb the past several weeks the landscape gardening class was over crowded with sophomores whose work along the main road just after the junior banquet was exceedingly well done. The accompanying cut illustrates a portion of the class at work. TENNIS PLAYERS AGAIN ACTIVE. Balmy Spring Weather Puts “Pep” Into Players. The return of spring brings with it the welcome baseball season, and a glance at the campus will reveal the fact that the great National game is in full swing. Another glance will show that the lovers of tennis are serving on every court. For some un known reason the interest in tennis has declined in recent years except among a persistent few, but now the call of the clay court is being answer ed enthusiastically by a large number. Several new courts have been built recently and more will have to be planned to accommodate all who de sire to play. There should be no rea son why tennis should not be restored to its rightful place among the sports enjoyed by the cadets. It’s a clean, healthy and inexpensive game, to say the least. There should be enough ability among the various players to put A. & M. on the tennis map with ease. Cadet*—“This is a poor time to go to camp.” His Pal—“Why?” Cadet—“Because it’s March most of the time we are out there.” WITH APOLOGIES TO DAVID. Chem. is my Jonah. I shall not pass. It maketh me study after taps; it houndeth me in my sleep; It worrieth my soul, though I follow it up for the sake of a sheepskin. Yea, though I pass all but thee, I shall not graduate, for thou shalt be behind me. I fear thee always; thy theory and practice flunk me. Thou prepareth an exam in the presence of my classmates, and thou maketh a fool of me till my wrath runneth over. But surely goodness and mercy shall prevail in thy mind on final exam, else I shall dwell at A. & M forever. M. M. D., ’16. As surely as spring comes with blooming flowers and singing birds, “his” appearance is to be relied upon. His? Who? Why, the bug hunter, with his insect net and cyanide bottle. Watch him as he chases from shrub to bush and bush to vine after many an elusive insect, bug or pest, as the case may be.
