THE BATTALION
LOCALS
Mr. J. N. Michie left Thursday for
Virginia ot attend the bedside of his
mother.
It is reported on good authority that
Lindy strapped the fish that rescued
the hig ram book.
We are indeed glad to see the two
new swings in Saunders Park, the
gift of Pete Saunders.
Miss Vesta Otto left Monday for
Houston, after an extended visit at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Car-
son.
Mr. W. T. Atkinson, graduate C. E.
TO, and “Red” Easterwood, who was
a Junior when T2 class were fish,
were visiting here this week.
R. E. Dickson has discovered why
they wash the building stones in acid.
He says it is done to remove tobacco
stains. ^
A feature of the fire was the break
ing out of all the window lights after
it was clear that the building was
doomed. This was done by the cadets
in order to get full value of the trust
fund.
“Who pulled the cover off my bed?”
Good Eye shrieked aloud.
“I’ll get that slimy creature yet.
If I have to lick the crowd.
With Koimn for a second
And Preacher now in view.
He decided to give him battle
Without any more ado.
He said unto his second:
“I’ll set this matter right.
Or become upon my downfall
The horrors of the fight.”
| Preacher fought with manly skill
His great antagonist.
| First with argument in vain.
And then with doubled fist.
j Though Good Eye fought with valor,
WeTe sorry to relate.
In the midst of the encounter
He forgot to concentrate.
He left a tiny opening
Which Preacher chanced to spy,
As he hit him with a liner
Advisory System at Cornell.
The faculty of the College of Arts
and Sciences at Cornell University has
adopted a system of advisers for un
derclassmen. For some years there
has been in operation a system of
upperclass advisers, which provided
that at the beginning of the Junior
year students must choose as an ad
viser a professor or assistant profes
sors to take the major portion of his
upperclass work. The new plan has
been originated in response to the be
lief that it would be advisable to give
more systematic assistance to Fresh
men and Sophomores in such matters
as choice of studies and arrangement
of courses.
Hereafter every underclassman,
must choose, or will have assigned to
him, some member of the faculty To
whom he may go for advice in the
selection of his studies. It is the duty
of the adviser to establish friendly
relations with the students in his
charge and make them feel that he
will be glad to confer with them on
other subjects than the choice of
studies. And, as with the present sys
tem of upperclass advisers, the under
classman’s study card must be ap
proved and signed by his adviser be
fore it will be accepted at the dean’s
office. No one adviser will have more
than ten underclassmen under his
charge.—New York Evening Post.
In the corner of his eye.
The act so riled our hero
That he punched at Preacher’s nose,
And made the blood gush torrents
Down the linings of his clothes.
The second called the battle off
With neither side ahead.
And the question still unsettled:
“Who tore up Good Eye’s bed?”
L’AMOUR D’ARGENT.
She loved me, that I knew.
She only waited for a chance
To answer yes to my request;
My love for her could not enhance.
Ergo I did my level best
To start myself anew.
But time has brought to bear
A change in me but not in her.
I love her now with sudden zeal,
And nuptial tie will soon occur;
For now, I get a handsome deal—
She is a millionaire.
—Cyrus F. Smythe.
