glances at his watch—two more min utes. He arouses the others. Suddenly the quiet is broken by the blast of a single bugle, then into the air of night there comes a wild, evul- tant shout. Pandemonium is every where. Down the tented streets there rush hordes of phantom-like demons, buckets and tin pans rattle, there are clashes as of the din of battle. Fresh men are dumped sprawling and half- dressed into the tent streets; shoes are flung into the trees. The racket subsides. What if it had happened in College? In the morning there is a crowd with much swollen eyes, long stretc^h- ing yawns, and many a painful ache. After a hearty breakfast we break camp. It -was 11 o’clock when we left the camp. The march was conducted in true military manner. Companies “M” and “L” acted as advance guards, then came the main body, and lastly the rear guard. The sky was overcast with a thick blanket of clouds and we had not been on the march a half hour before a slow drizzling rain set in which lasted until we were nearly home. The country through which we marched is a succession of hills—ups and downs—and the rain made them into an excellent semi-skating rink, as will be attested by the companies who followed the first two, and by the seats of their trousers, for in some cases it was safer, even if not more con venient, to slide than to walk. That one of our companions was drowned, we are truly sorry; but from a military standpoint the “hike” was a great success. The ruse that was worked by Companies “F” and “H” on the offensive, while to be praised for its success, could not have been so easily carried out under actual hostile conditions. In closing, we wish to express to the Commandant our appreciation of his eenrgy in planning for us a trip affording such excellent training in the life of a soldier. “THE KILTIES.” The “Kilties,” Canada’s greatest con cert band, gave a matinee concert in the college auditorium April 2, which was highly appreciated by all present. Each and every selection was ren dered in a style which was in keeping with the reputation of this group of musicians. The “Kilties” are known all over the world, having visited twenty different countries and trav eled over four hundred thousand miles. The band was conducted by Carroll W. Rhodes. The Longhorn management is to be complimented on their good fortune in securing such an attraction and we hope we shall have the opportunity of hearing more in this class. NEW COMMANDANT.
