campus and made a valuable addition to
the whist crowd Mrs. McGill is an artist
and as she was on her way home from a
stay of many months in New York, Wash
ington, etc., she had much interesting gos
sip for the people in this little corner of
the globe.
The first of September found the campus
trying to straighten up for the new-comers
and cadets. Although these “new-com
ers” have not been here long, they seem to
know how to fit in and the campus thinks
it will like them.

Many of the College people will be glad
to learn that Mr. Burgoon ’05 is now com
pletely recovered from his long illness and
was welcomed by everyone here just after
College opened.

Mr. Cary Hutson ’00 visited his family
several times during the vacation and was
here again in September.

Another “A. and M. boy,” Mr Hol
comb ’02, was also here one day in the
third week in September.

Charming little Mrs. Todd has been vis
iting her parents, Dr and Mrs. Bittle, for
some time, and we are all delighted to
know that she will be with us for a while
yet.

We also # hear that there is to be a Glee
Club and perhaps an orchestra, consisting
of both cadets and professors, as it used to
be. Hurrah, for that, we’ll have some
music for our entertainments and dances
without so much extra practicing.
We are glad to learn that they are re
pairing some of the residences and other
buildings on the campus, and hope to
see many other improvements within the
College limits under the careful direction
of our new president. “The old place
needs sprucin’ up a bit.”

Miss Edna Foster visited friends on the
campus during the vacation and took her
old place among them.

Judge Reese of Austin visited his daugh
ter, Mrs. Spence, since College opened.
Mrs. Reese and Mrs. Tompkins spent a
pait of the summer here.

The College Ladies’ Club had a meeting
as usual on the first Thursday after the
ladies returned, and at this meeting they
elected all the newly-arrived ladies members
of their club. At their next meeting they
elected offirers as follows: Mrs. C. W.
Hutson, Pres.; Mrs. —Gibbs, Vice Pres.;
Mrs. H. W. South, Sec. The course of
study for the year is to be “The Literature
of England and Russia,” under the direc
tion of the Chautauqua movement, as it
was last year.

There is to be another club—a Sketch
Club—which will meet in the Main Build
ing every Friday night to study from still
life the posed model. Action and costume
poses, memory sketches, silhouettes, cari
catures, illustrations, compositions, discus
sions, the reading of short articles on art
and mutual criticism are to be features of
the club’s work, as planned. Every one
who cares to do work of this kind is ex
pected to come up and join. The cadets
are especially wanted, as they will find
much help from this work in getting up
illustrations for the Olio, Vol. 2.
